Once "everything" please: Sightseeing on the Berlin Wall Cycle Path

The Berlin Wall Cycle Path leads completely around the former West Berlin. The themed cycle path not only runs through the urban jungle, but also makes a detour into the Berlin area.

Next to the Berlin Wall, cycle tourists experience something like this Village of Lübars, which is the only surviving village that still belongs to the Berlin urban area. Here the cycle path also crosses green landscapes in the middle of the river valley. About the Mark quarters the Wall Cycle Path continues in the direction of the city center and passes the former Bergmann-Borsig factories, which are now an interesting business location. The first historic highlight on the cycle path is the former border crossing at Bornholmer Straße at the eastern end of the Bösebrücke. Here, on November 9, 1989, the border between West and East was opened for GDR citizens for the first time.

Further south is the cycle path on the Mauerpark past, which was the border strip between the GDR and the FRG at the time of the division of Germany. Today the park is used as a recreation area. In summer, the Mauerpark is a magnet for many people, especially on weekends. A flea market and karaoke events often invite you to linger here. Shortly after that Central Station the bike path meanders through it Government District. Also on the former Sonnenallee border crossing the Berlin Wall Cycle Path takes you past. You continue through residential areas until you finally approach Berlin-Schoenefeld Airport from the north.

You have now left the hustle and bustle of the big city behind you and are cycling along the southern route of the cycle path along the outskirts of the city. The expanded routes pass through the urban area and there is always a great view of the city's skyscrapers. At the same time, cyclists can enjoy the tranquility of the Berlin area. Shortly before the Teltow Canal, the cycle path leads under 800 cherry trees which were a gift from the Japanese in the 90s. This is a particularly breathtaking scenery, especially in spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. In the west of the city, the cycle path leads past the unique Potsdam Palaces and Parks over. It is worth making a detour here Sanssouci Palace, which is known for its extensive parks.

Near Potsdam is the historic Glienicke Bridge, also known as "Bridge of Agents". It served as an exchange point for captured agents during the German-German division. Today, commemorative and commemorative plaques commemorate the history of the bridge.

Lübars is the oldest village in Berlin where agriculture is still practiced today. Cyclists experience a historic village center, riding stables and active farms. There is also a leisure and recreation park with lawns for sunbathing and playing. There is a diverse animal world around Lübars.

The Berlin Wall Cycle Path leads through the first large new housing estate in former West Berlin. It was created by numerous domestic and foreign architects and is home to tens of thousands of Berliners.

Here you can see the remains of what was once the largest GDR manufacturer of power plant components. The company emerged from Bergmann Electricitäts-Werke Aktien-Gesellschaft, which was founded by Sigmund Bergmann in 1891 and was dedicated, among other things, to the electrical equipment of trams and interurban trains.

The Bornholmer Straße border crossing was the northernmost of the 7 inner-city through routes. In 1989, the first GDR citizens were able to emigrate to West Berlin here.

Within the center of Berlin, the Wall Cycle Path has an urban character. This is initially the case on the section from Berlin-Mitte to Schönefeld. However, allotment colonies that appear more rural are also cycled through. From Schönefeld to Potsdam, the cycle path takes holidaymakers along the city limits and thus through less built-up areas. Poplar avenues, country lanes with a view of the Brandenburg area and the backdrop of houses in the outskirts of Berlin characterize the picture. Wald is cycled through on the Königsweg to Potsdam. From Kladow near Potsdam to Hohen Neuendorf, suburban, city and thoroughly rural border routes alternate. Here West Berlin is only occasionally perceived through forest and hedges. In the north it goes through pine forest. The last rural section with a village character is on the Tegeler Fliess.

Then it's back to the hustle and bustle of the city. Between the districts of Pankow and Wedding, the route leads partly along the S-Bahn lines back to Berlin-Mitte. Mauerpark, Bernauer Strasse, Humboldt University, Charité and the banks of the Spree are the last landmarks on the Berlin Wall Cycle Path before the Brandenburg Gate comes into view.
