Radtourenkarte Alpe Adria

Individual arrival to the festival, Mozart and cultural city of Salzburg. Winding streets and squares invite you to stroll and dreamy cafés invite you to enjoy real Austrian coffee specialties. You breathe culture and history at every turn.

Overnight place: Salzburg

Get out of Salzburg and head south. You cycle through shady meadows along the Salzach to Hallein, a Celtic town that used to be rich in salt mining. Hallein surprises with a romantic old town with small streets, archways and houses with magnificent facades. You pass Golling past the rushing waterfall and continue along the well-developed cycle path to St. Johann. The towers of the Pongau Cathedral rise unmistakably - like double mountain peaks.

Overnight place: St. John

Shortly after Schwarzach you say goodbye to the Salzach, from today on the Gasteiner Ache accompanies you through the wildly romantic Gastein Valley. Via Dorfgastein and Bad Hofgastein you cycle to the well-known spa and winter sports resort of Bad Gastein at the foot of the Hohe Tauern, which offers a variety of natural historical and architectural sights. The landmark is the Gastein waterfall in the middle of the town, which has been the motif of many painters and poets. Now it's just a stone's throw to Böckstein, where a Tauernschleuse train takes you to the other side of the Alps, to Mallnitz, in just 10 minutes. Back in the saddle, enjoy the rushing descent to your hotel in the Mölltal.

Overnight place: Mölltal

Today you will cycle through impressive high mountain landscapes, first along the Möll river. The Drau valley begins in the town of Möllbrücke, and with it the sunny south of Austria. Your bike will roll almost by itself, gently downhill along the Drau. In Spittal you can visit the Renaissance Porcia Castle - sometimes described as the "most beautiful Renaissance building north of the Alps". A few more vigorous pedal strokes and you will reach Villach, the heart of which is the delightful old town with its southern flair and cozy "Beisln" and restaurants.

Overnight place: Villach

You can bridge the climb to Tarvisio by train. The cycle path in Italy is also well developed and you can cycle comfortably downhill through the canal valley and admire the beauties of the Friulian Alpine region with its intact, untouched nature and extensive forests from the saddle. The place to stay overnight is in one of the pretty villages at the foothills of the Julian Alps.

Overnight place: Gemona and surroundings

At the southern exit of the Canal Valley lies one of the most beautiful historical towns in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The townscape of Gemona del Friuli is dominated by the majestic cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and will delight you too. On the way to Udine, the first vines are already appearing along the cycle route. When you arrive in the city, feel the “dolce vita” with a coffee in the “Piazza” or while strolling through the streets and admire the late Gothic and Renaissance buildings.

Overnight place: Udine

A warm Scirocco breeze blows around your nose! You drive through wide reed landscapes and along small water canals towards the Gulf of Venice. You should definitely plan a stop in the Roman city of Aquileia, the so-called “Second Rome”, before you reach your destination. One of the most popular seaside resorts on the Adriatic, the historic fishing town of Grado, not only impresses with its extensive sandy beach, the historic harbor and the narrow streets with cozy restaurants also exude Italian flair.

Overnight place: Grade

After breakfast departure on your own.
