From Schärding you cycle along the Inn Cycle Path to Passau, where you can see the largest cathedral organ in the world. Next you will visit Engelszell Abbey, one of the stylistically purest Rococo churches in Austria.

Overnight place: Upper Danube Valley

Today's first highlight is the Schlögener Donauschlinge, where the granite forces the river to form an extremely tight loop. At Aschach the valley widens and you cycle through the fertile Eferding Basin. The baroque Wilhering Abbey invites you to take a break before you reach the cultural city of Linz.

Overnight place: Linz

After Linz you will pass through rural towns and regions again. In Mauthausen the concentration camp memorial commemorates a dark chapter in history. The small shipping town of Grein attracts visitors with Greinburg Castle, the oldest municipal theater in Austria and the maritime museum. Overnight stay in Ardagger/Grein or, for Cat I, partly in Wallsee/Mitterkirchen.

Drive through the wild and romantic Strudengau to the old Roman town of Ybbs. This is where the gentle landscape of the Nibelungengau begins and from afar you can see the Maria Taferl pilgrimage church, which towers over the Danube valley. In Melk you should visit the Benedictine monastery and the idyllic places in the Wachau invite you to rest.

Overnight place: Wachau/surroundings

Today you will experience the most beautiful part of your journey, the picturesque Wachau. Passing emerald green vines you will reach Dürnstein. If you want, you can also travel a part of the Wachau by boat today (mid-April to the end of October, on your own). The Kremsthe old town with its arcaded courtyards and baroque town houses. You will soon reach your destination in the Traismauer/Tulln area. (Overnight stays in Krems/Mautern, the next day about 80km to Vienna, can be shortened by taking the train on your own if desired).

Shortly before Vienna, the valley narrows again, the Danube passes through the Vienna Gate on the edge of the Vienna Woods and takes you via Klosterneuburg to the cosmopolitan city of Vienna, famous for its coffee house culture and its numerous sights.

Very nice bike trip!!!

Varied area, very well developed cycle paths and good signage! Unfortunately there were some points of criticism that we are not aware of from you, perhaps you can pass this on to the company carrying out the trip. When we arrived in Passau the reserved bikes were not available, when we asked by phone we were told that the bikes would be delivered the next morning. Without receiving any information the bikes were in the garage that morning. Individual adjustments had to be made by the customer, luckily tools were there. Each bike had a defective air pump and both pedals on one bike were worn out, but they held up until the end of the trip. We were not informed that the cycle path was completely closed just behind Schlögen, so we had to use two Danube ferries to get across the construction site! In the last hotel in Vienna only a double room was reserved for us, luckily there was still a room available! The nice weather made up for it, we are already looking forward to the next cycle trip with you. Kind regards, Bernd Radmann and the Berkemeier family
