Spreewald – Wellness Tour

Today's stage takes you via the Koselmühle to the sauna village of Leuthen. Franziska Almsick's mother runs a beautiful sauna area there. We continue to the Spremberg dam, where the western beach is recommended for swimming when the weather is nice. After you have refreshed yourself, cycle along the Spree to the Kutzeburger Mühle. At that time still a water mill, today a riding stable with tasty cuisine and a popular destination for the people of Cottbus.

The Spreewald can be reached quickly on the direct route to Burg. Then the White Stork Center and Vetschau Castle await you, as well as the Slav Castle Bicycledusch. Between Leipe and Lübbenau you drive on one of the most beautiful sections of the trail through the high forest. In Lehde, the “pocket-sized lagoon city” (Fontane), you can find out interesting facts about the tradition of cucumber cultivation in the Cucumber Museum. Try out the different varieties of gherkins and enjoy the colorful hustle and bustle of the market in Lübbenau at the Großer Hafen.

In the secret capital of the Spreewald, we recommend a relaxing rest day with a boat trip (included) to Lehde. If you still want to cycle a bit, you can tackle this small round. First it goes to Boblitz to the Rabe cucumber factory. You then cycle back to Lehde via the Dubkowmühle and Leipe. In the open-air museum, time seems to stand still and you immerse yourself in the life of the Sorbs in the 19th century. Lübbenau is now not far, where you can finally make a small detour to the Wotschofska restaurant in the Hochwald.

Along the Spree to Lübben. There the castle with museum, the castle island and one of the many harbors invite you to linger. As an alternative, you can then take a detour to Krausnick and Schlepzig in the quiet Unterspreewald. Schlepzig is the most beautiful village in the region with many sights. At the end Burg awaits you. The scattered settlement is also known as the "Venice of the East".

On this stage you will get to know Burg better. This circular route connects all three districts. The barefoot park awaits you right at the beginning, where body and soul can find rest and relaxation. Behind the Waldschlösschen boat ferry port (not so frequented) it is worth making a detour to the Polenzschänke, the oldest inn in the region. Past the
Maze you reach the castle hill with Bismarck Tower and Willow Cathedral. The Spreehafen, the Heimatstube and the old Spreewald train station are further highlights in Burg Dorf.

How about a cucumber wellness program after breakfast? Well rested, you cycle from the Bismarck Tower along the old Spreewaldbahn route to the stork village of Dissen, where around 8-12 pairs of storks breed every year. In the local history museum you will learn everything you need to know about the Sorbs and Master Adebar. From the old fortified town of Peitz it goes through the largest contiguous pond area in Germany. The traditional excursion restaurant Maustmühle offers a beautiful view of it and delicious Plinse. Afterwards, at Lakoma, it is worth taking a look at the former lignite opencast mine, from which the Cottbus Baltic Sea is to be created in the next few years.
