Tuscany has one of the most impressive landscapes in Europe, thanks to its rolling hills dotted with picturesque vineyards, olive slopes and cypress avenues. As you cycle, you'll enjoy a variety of views and admire Renaissance art and architecture. Tuscany is also the land of numerous artists, such as Leonardo da Vinci or Giacomo Puccini. Cities like Pisa or Florence need no further presentation, but you will also discover beautiful castles and villages where you can taste Tuscan cuisine.
Individual arrival and overnight stay. Pisa, world-famous for the magical Piazza dei Miracoli with the spectacular Leaning Tower, has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and also has the friendly and lively charisma of a university town.
Overnight place: Pisa
It goes through the Pisan countryside, either on an almost completely flat, easy stage (25 km, altitude difference +130m/-115m) that takes you north, along the river Serchio to the village of Ripafratta and then to the city of Lucca, or a slightly longer and more challenging bike ride along the eastern side of the Monti Pisani and then to Lake Massaciuccoli.
Overnight place: Lucca
A panoramic road takes you to the small towns of Collodi and Pescia. In Collodi, where the author of Pinocchio spent his childhood, you can visit the famous Parco di Pinocchio and the noble Villa Garzoni. In Pescia, small churches, palaces, Renaissance mansions and the flower market invite you to take a stroll.
Overnight place: Montecatini
Today you have two options: you can relax in the thermal waters of one of the most famous thermal spas in Europe and stroll through the narrow streets of the old town, which you can reach by funicular. Or you can cycle through olive groves, vineyards and past Medici villas and old farms to Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci (visit to the museum possible).
Overnight place: Like the day before Montecatini
This day gives you the opportunity to start cycling straight away from Montecatini or to shorten the stage by taking a train transfer to Pistoia (total distance 50km, difference in altitude +240m/-250m). Pistoia is characterized by Romanesque and Renaissance style and is home to one of the most impressive squares in Italy, the Piazza del Duomo. From here you continue cycling through the Tuscan plain to reach Florence.
Overnight place: Florence
Free day. You can decide how you want to spend your time in one of the most beautiful cities in the world! If you wish, you can also take a short bike tour through a wonderful mix of Renaissance villas, Romanesque parish churches and cypress trees.
Overnight place: Like the day before Florence
Today you have two options: you can cycle from Florence (approx. 40 km, altitude difference +360m/-385m) and reach Pisa by train from Empoli or take the Florence-Empoli train and cycle along the Arno to Pisa, in the middle of a very scenic area and flat terrain.
