Algarve coastal hike

Black, red, and yellow rock formations, barren plateaus, long stretches of sandy beaches, and breathtaking headlands provide the perfect backdrop for a truly special hike. From the tranquil town of Sagres, secluded paths lead gently up and down along the coast through the fragrant maquis shrubland. Via rocky trails and through shimmering coves, you will eventually reach the small village of Figueira.

Always along the beach, through dunes and lagoons, on winding paths through the coastal nature reserves, where you can admire numerous bird species, the Wadden Sea, and the ocean from the observation towers. A short train ride takes you to the fishing village of Fuzeta, the starting point of this stage. Sparkling salt pans, small villages with colorful houses, and blossoming orchards line your path. Along the banks of the gently flowing Ria Formosa, you hike along the edge of the lagoon through the nature park to the island of Tavira. Passing the "Cemetery of Anchors," you continue along the fine sandy beach to the northern tip of the island, where a boat will take you to the Venice of the Algarve, the historic town of Tavira.
