You cycle from the most southwestern point in Europe, Cape St. Vincent, to the Spanish-Portuguese border town of Vila Real de Santo Antonio. On the way you will experience beautiful landscapes, romantic fishing villages with a lot of tradition, lively old towns, hidden bays framed by steep cliffs, great views over the sea and countless long sandy beaches that are perfect for swimming. Enjoy Portuguese hospitality with excellent cuisine and discover a diverse and beautiful coastline from west to east.

Overnight place: Sagres
The first bike tour takes you to a special highlight, the famous lighthouse at Cape St. Vinzenz, the most southwestern point in Europe. From the cliffs that rise vertically from the Atlantic, almost 75 meters high, you have a spectacular view over the sea and can hear the crashing waves. You cycle over gentle hills to the fishing village of Salema and on to Burgau Beach. You will be impressed by the famous Ponta da Piedade just outside Lagos, a magnificent natural monument and one of the most famous postcard motifs in the Algarve. In the lively port city of Lagos, you can reflect on the exciting day with a good glass of wine.

Meia beach offers you the first opportunity to take a swim in the refreshing sea today. Here at low tide you can watch countless shell collectors searching for delicacies. In Odiáxere it is worth visiting the 16th century church and in Alvor strolling through the Morabito de São Pedro city market and through the narrow streets of the old town. Treat yourself to a break in a typical restaurant with freshly caught fish. With fantastic views over the sea, you cycle further along the coast. Stay on the beautiful sandy beach of Praia da Rocha before you leisurely arrive at your overnight destination, Portimao, in the afternoon.

To start, the cycle path takes you along the Arade River to the village of Ferragudo with its beautiful church and wonderful views over the river mouth. The route continues past olive, cypress, orange, fig and cork oak trees to Lagoa. There you should try traditional Portuguese pastries and visit the Senhora da Rocha chapel, which is located on a rocky outcrop above the sea. Extensive sandy beaches lie along the way to one of the most famous holiday resorts in the Algarve. Albufeira is also your destination.

In the fishing village of Olhos de Água there is a beautiful beach where you can take a break. Let the fresh sea air blow around your nose and enjoy the fine sand under your feet. In Vilamoura you pass one of the largest marinas in the country and then cycle through the pine forests towards the Ria Formosa Nature Park, one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal. The capital of the Algarve, Faro, appears in the distance. Discover the famous old town with its nice restaurants and lively alleyways.

The cycle path continues through the Ria Formosa Nature Park. Always keeping an eye on the offshore islands, the few clouds above the Atlantic are reflected in the salt lakes. In Olhão you can take a coffee break at the busy market and watch the locals doing their daily errands. Then you cycle leisurely to the fishing village of Fuseta with its typical white houses. Today's cycling day ends on the ancient Roman bridge in the town center of Tavira. Enjoy the evening in one of the most beautiful and typical towns in the Algarve.
Overnight place: Tavira
Even today, the Ria Formosa Natural Park with its lagoons is your companion. You roll through the pine forest on the beach of Monte Gordo and the dune forest of Vila Real de Santo António to the border between Portugal and Spain. Follow the border river Guadiana a little north before cycling over gentle hills, past orange and olive groves, back towards Tavira. By now you should toast to a successful and very eventful cycling trip.
