The journey follows Sisi's bridal journey from Passau to Vienna along the Danube. The route, marked out by bike and premium ship, enables the discovery of breathtaking river landscapes, picturesque villages, castles and palaces, embedded in beautiful nature. It is characterized by the warmth of the Austrians and the culinary delights of the region, including world-famous pastries. The Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its excellent wines. The largest church in the country is located in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. Vienna, the waltz metropolis, impresses with its charm, unique architecture and captivating stories from the imperial era.
Experience Mediterranean flair in the three-river city of Passau. On the day of your arrival, be sure to plan some time for a stroll through the picturesque, baroque old town with narrow streets and the Passau Cathedral with the largest church organ in the world. After embarkation between 16:00 p.m. and 17:00 p.m., cast off and your cycling holiday begins with a romantic boat trip into the sunset, with a view of the Passau backdrop of church towers and domes slowly disappearing on the horizon.
How does the densely overgrown forest floor smell, like the freshly mown meadow? Very close and right in the middle you cycle on the former stairway, past tranquil villages through the original landscape of the upper Danube valley. Small, rustic pubs along the way invite you to linger, and the scent of freshly grilled fish on a stick wafts over the bike path. From the Schlögener Blick you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the natural spectacle of the Danube loop.
Get a breath of fresh country air again - at noon you will reach Upper Austria's provincial capital, Linz. Take the bright yellow slow train (optional) on a tour of discovery through Europe's Capital of Culture 2009. An unforgettable day in the picturesque Wachau! Cycle through small wine-growing villages surrounded by vineyard terraces and apricot trees. The dreamy town of Dürnstein with its narrow streets is a special highlight, in Spitz there are cozy wine taverns (wine tasting optional) right on the cycle path and the impressive Benedictine monastery of Melk is one of the most beautiful baroque ensembles in Europe.
A beautiful and varied route with impressions in all facets lies ahead of you! From the medieval town of Grein (oldest municipal theater in Austria, visit optional)) you cycle through the idyllic hinterland of the Strudengau, with a bit of luck you will be personally guided through the romantic Clam Castle by the lord of the castle and take a journey back in time into prehistory in the Celtic village of Mitterkirchen. The quality of the cycle paths is excellent. The cycle path usually runs on paved bike and dam paths or quiet country roads without any significant gradients. Therefore, this trip is also suitable for inexperienced cyclists.
