Along the Main- Danube Canal you cycle on paved gravel paths. With a few exceptions, you cycle on the Franconian Water Cycle Path without major inclines.

Through the upper Altmühltal you reach the picturesque town of Leutershausen. The medieval atmosphere can still be felt in Herrieden. You can find impressive architectural monuments in the former residential town of Ansbach.

The romantic Altmühlsee in Gunzenhausen invites you to take a break. Located in the Altmühltal Nature Park you will find historic Weißenburg and the spa town of Treuchtlingen.

Bizarre rock formations now line the further course of the river through a landscape of unique beauty. A baroque natural jewel is the episcopal city of Eichstätt. Chocolate and coffee lovers will find culinary delights in the Café Chocolatique.

The path leads you through the Gungoldinger juniper heath to the three-castle town of Riedenburg, where you will find a magnificent collection of crystals and precious stones in the Crystal Museum. The historic old town of Beilngries is surrounded by a well-preserved town wall.

Today's bike tour takes you to Plankstetten Monastery. Try a glass of schnapps from our own distillery. Along the Main-Danube Canal takes you to the castle town of Hilpoltstein. At the nearby Rothsee, bathing enthusiasts can relax on the well-kept sunbathing areas.

This stage of the Franconian Water Cycle Path leads along the Castle Road from the Franconian Lake District to Romantic Franconia. Via the minnesinger town of Wolframs-Eschenbach, with its completely preserved town wall, you reach the former residential town of Ansbach.

On the following section of the route, the Franconian Water Cycle Path inspires with numerous historical discoveries. After Colmberg with its imposing castle you cycle through the hilly foothills of the Frankenhöhe to Rothenburg.
