You undertake an exciting voyage of discovery on a magnificent and comfortably equipped sailing ship. The round trip starts in Amsterdam and leads along the IJsselmeer coast. The historic towns worth seeing, the polders and the inland villages are connected by excellent cycle paths. With Monnickendam, Hoorn and Enkhuizen you will discover the old trading towns from the time of the East India Company. You will visit many more historic towns and polders on the western and eastern shores of the IJsselmeer.
The tour also passes through various Dutch national parks and takes you to the province of Overijssel. On the last day, the ship sails back to Amsterdam, while you can relax on board. There will also be a small stop for a short bike ride through the Oostvaardersplassen: a unique nature reserve where nature is left to itself to create a natural balance in the flora and fauna. And if you would like to get active on board, you are welcome to help navigate and hoist the sails under the guidance of the experienced crew. Or you can simply stretch out your legs, let the wind blow in your face and enjoy the passing landscape. Since the ships are very large (up to 55 meters) and sturdily built, seasickness has almost no chance.

Day 1 (Sat): Amsterdam – Monnickendam/Volendam
Your cycling and sailing week starts in Amsterdam. The crew will welcome you on board between 13:00 p.m. and 14:00 p.m. After all guests have checked in, the ship (with motor) goes to Monnickendam or Volendam. After dinner you can take a short walk to the historical center of the place.
Day 2 (Sun): Monnickendam – Volendam (cycle tour 32 or 51 km) | Volendam-Hoorn
After breakfast you will cycle to a family-run cheese dairy with a clog workshop, where you will experience a short demonstration of the old handicraft techniques. Continue over the old dikes to Purmerend, in the heart of the De Be polderemster, a former lake that has been converted into pastureland. The wide landscape is about 3,5 meters below sea level and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Via the beautiful city of Edam you continue to Volendam, where after a walk along the harbor you board again and take the ship to Hoorn.
Day 3 (Mon): Hoorn – Enkhuizen (bike tour 28 or 39 km) Enkhuizen – Urk
Today's bike tour takes you through rural hamlets and villages to Enkhuizen. It goes past the windmill De Krijgsman (the warrior). It is one of the few old windmills still in use to grind grain into flour. In the 17th century, thanks to its port, Enkhuizen was one of the wealthiest cities in Holland, importing expensive spices from Asia at the time. Many impressive stately mansions, canals, churches and city walls reflect the history and wealth of the city. If the weather is fine, the ship will sail across the IJsselmeer to the traditional fishing town of Urk in the afternoon. If you wish, you can help the crew with the sailing. Or just sit back and enjoy the ride overlooking the water. In the evening you could stroll through the narrow streets of the picturesque village. The houses of the old Urk were built tightly packed on elevations to protect against flooding, which led to the very winding townscape that is still visible today.
Day 4 (Tue): Urk – Vollenhove (cycle tour 37 km)
After breakfast you cycle along the water to the former island of Schokland, which has been completely surrounded by mainland since land reclamation. A museum documents the fate of the small island, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. Beautiful cycle paths lead along the former coastline. You continue the bike tour through the polders to the charming former fishing village of Vollenhove.
Day 5 (Wed): Vollenhove – Giethoorn (cycle tour 37 or 49 km)
From Vollenhove cycle paths lead through the open countryside to the small town of Blokzijl. This is where the Weerribben-Wieden National Park begins, which is considered to be the largest freshwater wetland in Northwest Europe and is an oasis of calm for plants, animals and people. A bike path runs through the middle of the park and you can completely immerse yourself in the silence of this area. With a bit of luck you might spot a kingfisher or even an otter. You drive through Kalenberg, a village that was only accessible by boat until the 1950s. A winding route through the agricultural region with narrow fields surrounded by dykes takes you first to the town of Sint-Jansklooster and then to the little town of Giethoorn. Here you will meet the ship again.
Day 6 Thursday: Giethoorn – Lelystad
Today you can put in a full day of sailing and make yourself comfortable on board. If you want, you can actively sail again. In the early afternoon the ship reaches Lelystad, the capital of the province of Flevoland, which was completely reclaimed from the sea by draining and dyking. Here you can visit the Batavia shipyard, an impressive facility where a historical, faithfully reproduced East India sailing ship can be viewed.
Day 7 (Fri): Lelystad – Blocq van Kuffeler (cycle tour 20 km or 39 km) | Block van Kuffeler-Amsterdam
After breakfast you start the last bike tour of this trip. From the port of Lelystad you can cycle a few kilometers to the Oostvaardersplassen, a nature reserve that has been disturbed as little as possible. Parts of the route meander through forested areas, while others offer panoramic views of expanses of grass and marshland - a true bird watcher's paradise. The ship awaits you in the small port of Oostvaardersdiep to then return to Amsterdam (approx. 2 hours). Celebrate this wonderful week around the IJsselmeer with dinner on board the ship.

The imposing clipper from 1913 has an upscale interior. During the careful conversion into a modern passenger sailing ship, great care was taken to preserve the originality of the typical Dutch flat-bottomed ship. Spacious cabins with their own shower and toilet, a large saloon with a bar and a cozy seating area guarantee a comfortable stay. The cabin area was completely redesigned and furnished in spring 2015. A total of 10 guest cabins with 2 single beds are available on the ship. Some of the cabins can be booked as 3-bed or 4-bed cabins (raised beds). 8 cabins are on the lower deck, 2 cabins on the upper deck. One window/porthole can be opened in all cabins.

We reserve the right to make changes for meteorological and nautical reasons!
The distance to be covered is primarily dependent on the weather and is determined from day to day. Route changes or a change in the order of the individual stages are therefore always reserved. The skipper and his crew discuss the possibilities with the guests on a daily basis and will do everything to offer you a varied mix of culture and nature.
The routes are almost always flat, you cycle almost exclusively on cycle paths along the canals and rarely on side roads with little traffic. It may have to be expected with more or less wind.
