Putbus, the white city Rügens, looks forward to your visit. The town of Putbus was founded in 1810 by Wilhelm Malte I, Prince of Putbus, who had his hometown developed as a planned town in the neoclassical style so that the town ensemble matched the palace and palace park. Along the route, a detour to the Mönchgut peninsula is recommended, which boasts deeply indented bays, cliffs, and fine sandy beaches, and which, in its entirety, retains its original character. Rügens reflects. Caspar David Friedrich also explored the peninsula on foot during his time. Göhren's southern beach served as a model for his painting “Monk by the Sea”.
