On the traces of the former Berlin Wall, this cycle tour offers fascinating impressions. Always following the former wall, you continue cycling at the Brandenburg Gate to Checkpoint Charlie and then to Kreuzberg. From here south to Neukölln. Along the Havel via Babelsberg to Potsdam and then following the northern course to Oranienburg.

Through the Tegeler Fliess nature reserve, you follow the course of the wall along the Reinickendorf city limits to Pankow and Wedding. The tour continues to the former Invalidenstraße border crossing. On the Kronprinzenbrücke, the path leads over the Spree to the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate.

 

Overnight place: Berlin center

At the Brandenburg Gate, the route leads along the former course of the Wall to Potsdamer Platz and on to the former Checkpoint Charlie border crossing with the border museum in Kreuzberg. The East Side Gallery begins at the Ostbahnhof, a piece of wall strip painted by artists. Before continuing your journey, you should make a detour to the Soviet memorial in Treptower Park. You cycle through Treptow's allotment gardens to the former Sonnenallee crossing (known from the authorilmung Leander Hausmanns). You reach Schönefeld and continue cycling past Bukow, between town and fields to Teltow.

Overnight place: Teltow

You cycle on the route of the former main railway, the first railway in Prussia. Further on you pass the former Dreilinden checkpoint and take the Königsweg through the Berlin Forest to Babelsberg and Potsdam. Use the afternoon to visit Sanssouci Palace (on your own).

Overnight place: Potsdam

Cycle through the landscape of hills, parks and lakes designed by Lenné and Schinkel. Over the Glienicker Bridge it goes idyllically along the Wannsee. By ferry (own management) across the Wannsee and Havel to Kladow. Through the garden city of Staaken and the Spandau Forest it goes to Nieder Neuendorf. You follow the long-distance cycle route Berlin - Copenhagen up to Oranienburg.

Berlin Wall Tour Feedback July 2014

Overall, a very enjoyable tour with mostly excellent accommodation. We had an initial problem with the bike pickup, as the the shop didn\'t seem to have our booking and the owner didn\'t speak any english. Once that was sorted via the phone help line, everything else was first class.

A map of Potsdam (available free of charge at the hotel) would have made our search easier for the hotel in Potsdam. The route description is good. However, this is not the case for the route to the Wyndham Garden Henningsdorf hotel. A small map of Henningsdorf would have been helpful here too. We were travelling without a GPS or sat nav. For us (73 and 71 years young) the route lengths were ideal, so we were able to visit the beautiful parks in Potsdam, for example.

Cycled together with my sister (64 & 67 y.) Beautiful routes. Good directions. Occasionally it was a little search for the hotel. Nice accommodations (except Hoteltow, was basic but very friendly people). Secure bike parking. Thank you for the nice holiday. (with own bike, so bike quality is not an issue for us)

The route planner (gpx file) led us to the wrong hotel one day (10 km detour!). It was a bit annoying, but otherwise everything was fine

We would also have liked to extend the Wall Cycle Path by one day. It was a great tour with lots of impressions and even 40 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, there is still a lot of information along the way
