Arrival in Białowieża. Your ***Hotel “Białowieski Conference Wellness & SPA” is located directly on the edge of the Białowieża Forest (excellent cuisine, including pierogi and porcini mushroom soup; very nice wellness area with indoor pool and many treatments www.hotel.bialowieza.pl). After check-in, you will receive detailed maps and a comprehensive, constantly updated description of the stages.
In 1979, the Polish part of the Białowieża Forest was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The forest, the heart of the Białowieża, is one of the last places where you can witness the ecosystem of the deep-sea forest firsthand. Bison roam the Białowieża Forest, and it is also home to 50 mammal species, approximately 200 bird species, and 1000 insect species. The oldest oak trees growing in the Białowieża Forest are said to have been erected by King Władysław Jagiełło. The oaks in Białowieża have record-breaking trunks in both height and width, which made them a highly prized export commodity in past centuries, used, for example, to manufacture ship masts on the world's oceans.
For those who wish to thoroughly explore Białowieża and its surroundings, we offer an optional tour with a local guide who will show you the most interesting places and tell you the history of the village. The entire trip takes approximately 7 hours. After breakfast at the designated time, a guide will meet you at the hotel reception and take you through Polana Białowieska to the castle park. You will learn about the history of this area and visit the interactive nature museum of Białowieża National Park, where you can see the animals that live in the forest. After the presentation, you can experience the wild nature of the Białowieża Forest firsthand in the museum. You will then pass through the gate of the strictly protected area, where you will leave your bicycles, and explore the Białowieża National Park reserve on foot. Entry is only permitted with a licensed guide. The next leg of today's journey is a visit to the bison reserve, where you can see the aforementioned bison, as well as deer, roe deer, Polish ponies, and, with a bit of luck, even wolves. On the way back to the hotel, you will also visit an interesting and magical place in the heart of the forest – the Place of Power. There are many theories about this place, which you will learn about from your guide. What is certain is that it is a circle of boulders and trees that grow in an unnatural way. Dinner awaits you upon your return to the hotel.
Today's plan is a paddling trip on the Narewka River, near the hotel. You will cycle approximately 3 km to the river. You will paddle there and back (no special skills are required as the river is shallow and calm).
The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you wish. You could go for a bike ride in the surrounding area.
The hotel shuttle bus will take you to Jałówka. There you will pick up your bicycles and begin your cycling tour back to Białowieża. In Jałówka, you can visit the beautiful ruins of the church. Along the way, you can take a dip in the Siemianówka Reservoir (depending on the water level). The Siemianówka Reservoir is a paradise for anglers. Furthermore, according to many ornithologists, it is one of the best places in Poland for birdwatching.
Today you can look forward to a delightful bike tour through the Białowieża Forest via Topiło, where you can take a break at the forest lake and admire the unspoiled nature. After this short rest, you will cycle back to your hotel.
The hotel shuttle bus will take you to Stare Masiewo. Before the main tour begins, you can take a short detour (approx. 3 km) to see the border with Belarus and visit the old Protestant cemetery. Main tour: Today you will visit Uroczysko Głuszec – "the capercaillie wilderness" – a former refuge of the capercaillie, which is sadly no longer found here. Then you will continue cycling, passing the observation tower at Kosy Most.
The tour ends after breakfast. Individual return journey or extension of the stay.
