Bornholm is a small paradise for cyclists and offers Scandinavian landscapes in miniature like from a picture book. Forests, meadows, lakes, farms, fishing villages, smokehouses, rocky coasts, sandy beaches and dune landscapes. The whole island is developed with bike paths. You cycle around the island on the coastal cycle path and go on excursions across the island.

Transfer by bus to the ferry center in Mukran (incl.). After 3,5 hours of sailing you will reach Rønne. Bornholm's tranquil capital offers many museums, picturesque streets and shopping arcades.

 

Overnight place: Ronne

Today you explore the west of the island with the cliffs around Jons Kapel. You cycle to Hasle. Here you can expect traditionally smoked fish and a small fish museum. Passing the castle ruins of Hammershus you drive to Allinge or to Sandkas.

 

Overnight place: Allinge or Sandkas

Use the day to extensively explore the Hammerknuten, the rock massif with its cliffs and the knowledge with juniper heath. This can be hiked around on a circular hike from to Sandvig. A swim at Sandvig beach is also attractive.

You cycle along the coast to Gudhjem with a visit to the art museum. A detour to the Helligdomsklipperne is part of every visit to Bornholm. The fish smokehouses and the small harbor are typical of Gudhjem. You cycle along the coastal road through numerous small fishing villages and reach the old seafaring town of Svaneke.

 

Overnight place: Svaneke, Balka of Nexø

Today we go to the center of the island. Leave Svaneke, Balka or Nexø towards Øesterlars. Marvel at the largest and oldest round church on the island. Your path continues into the forest of Almindingen. The Rytterknægten lookout tower offers a fantastic panoramic view.

 

Overnight place: Svaneke, Balka or Nexø

From Nexø you follow the cycle path inland. Cycle through wide fields and meadows towards Aakirkeby. Visit the oldest stone church on the island.

 

Overnight place: Ronne

In the early morning it is time to say goodbye to Bornholm. Then it's back to the island by ferry (incl.). Rügen. From here transfer by minibus (incl.) to Stralsund to the start hotel (without overnight stay). Departure on your own or an extra night Stralsund.

Fantastically beautiful! - Scandinavian landscapes with southern flair

After unforgettably beautiful Rügentour "To Rügens castles and manor houses" we were excited to see whether the subsequent tour, "Big Bornholm Tour 02" would be nearly as beautiful. In fact, this tour was also fantastic! Our transfer from Sassnitz to the Mukran ferry port was just as perfect as the pick-up at the Rönne ferry port on Bornholm. The employees of Mecklenburger Radtour on Rügen and then on Bornholm were extremely courteous and gave us excellent instructions on what to do before and after the ferry ride, and the luggage transport was once again absolutely reliable. Bornholm is ideal for exploring by bike. The network of cycle paths is first-class and the routes were very well described in the very informative travel documents. The views of the sea are magnificent and the trips through Hammeren, a beautiful nature reserve in the north, and the Almindingen forest in the interior of the island, are refreshing. The north of the island is an invitation to take a walk and linger on the picturesque coast. The chive fields in purple bloom were a fantastic sight and a wonderful contrast to the steel-blue sky and the beautiful flower meadows and fields. The beach at Dueodde impressed us with its size and fine white sand and is just as worth seeing as the four round churches, Bornholm's landmarks. The trip along the coast between Gudhjem and Sandkas is unforgettable with the impressive Helligdomsklipperne, the art museum and the fabulous view of the always turquoise shimmering sea. The small fishing villages and the fish smokehouses and handicraft workshops located there, especially in Gudhjem, are picturesque. It is worth a visit! The ice cream shop in Svaneke, the "Ismejri", is particularly worth mentioning. The waffles are homemade and the ice cream flavors are made from regional ingredients wherever possible. A real treat! Bornholm showed its best side throughout the tour and in all accommodations (Hotel Griffen Rönne, Hotel Friheden Sandkas and Hotel Siemsens Gaard) we felt very well looked after. The accommodations convinced with their fantastically beautiful location by the sea, very good and beautiful facilities, hospitality and culinary delights. We enjoyed every moment of this tour. Accordingly, it was difficult for us to say goodbye to this little paradise. The many beautiful experiences are unforgettable and the photos confirm the beauty of this dreamlike tour.
