Tourenkarte DonauArrive on your own either to the baroque town of Schärding or to the three-river town of Passau. When booking, please be sure to state the desired arrival location. Otherwise Schärding will be booked automatically.

Overnight place: Passau/Scharding

From Schärding you cycle along the Inn cycle path to Passau, where you can visit the largest cathedral organ in the world. Further east, the next highlight awaits you: Engelszell Abbey, the only Trappist monastery in Austria.

Overnight place: Upper Danube Valley

Today's first highlight of your cycling holiday is the Schlögen Danube loop, where the granite forces the river into an extremely narrow loop. At Aschach the valley widens and you cycle through the fertile Eferdinger Basin. The baroque Wilhering Abbey invites you to take a break before you reach the cultural city of Linz.

Overnight place: Eferdinger Basin/Linz

Behind Linz you cross rural towns and regions again until you reach Enns, the oldest city in Austria.

Overnight place: Enns region

In Mauthausen, the concentration camp memorial commemorates a black chapter in history. The shipping town of Grein attracts its visitors with Greinburg Castle, the oldest city theater in Austria and the shipping museum.

Overnight place: Ardagger/Grein

In Mauthausen, the concentration camp memorial commemorates a black chapter in history. The shipping town of Grein attracts its visitors with Greinburg Castle, the oldest city theater in Austria and the shipping museum.

Overnight place: Marbach/Maria Taferl/Melk/surroundings

In Melk you should visit the Benedictine monastery and take a break in the idyllic Wachauorten. Today you will experience what is probably the most beautiful part of your trip, the picturesque Wachau with its emerald green vines. If you want, you can also travel part of the Wachau by boat today (mid-April to the end of October, on your own).

Overnight place: Weißenkirchen/Krems/Vicinity

In krems - a more than 1000 year old city with medieval streets - the Wachau ends. The old town with its arcaded courtyards and baroque town houses is well worth seeing. Here you cross the Danube again and cycle past Göttweig Abbey to Traismauer or to Tulln Field with the flower town of Tulln.

Overnight place: Tulln/surroundings

Shortly before Vienna, the valley narrows again, the Danube passes through the Vienna Gate on the edge of the Vienna Forest and takes you via Klosterneuburg to the cosmopolitan city of Vienna, famous for its coffee house culture and its numerous sights. Discover the city on a horse-drawn carriage ride and end the trip with a cozy evening at a wine tavern. Luggage transport generally ends in Vienna.
