On this tour you will be accommodated - as far as possible - with winegrowers or in inns and hotels that have dedicated themselves to wine in a special way. You will roam through the different regions of the Franconian wine-growing region and you will find out that each region produces its very own taste, even if the grape varieties are the same.
Volkach may be a small town, but it has a lot of attractions to offer. Perhaps you can take a walk to the Maria im Weingarten pilgrimage church. Or you can simply sit in front of one of the many inns and watch the lively hustle and bustle of the town.
Overnight place: Volkach
From Volkach, you first take a loop along the Altmain to Münsterschwarzach. Along the way, you will pass well-known wine villages such as Nordheim, Escherndorf and Sommerach. You will then roam through the domains of the Counts of Schönborn and the Princes of Castell. The best vineyards and forests made it possible to build stately castles. The inhabitants of the medieval towns tried to protect their towns with sturdy defensive walls that are still well preserved today.

The former fortified churches of Markt Einemsheim and Mönchsondheim form a first highlight of the day. This is followed by numerous well-known wine villages in the Keuper region. Along the Gollach we go to the Tauber Valley and to Röttingen, the town of sundials.

In the Tauber Valley you can follow in the footsteps of the Counts of Hohenlohe. And of course they were not stingy with food either, so a good tipple is a must here too: Markelsheimer is recommended. After all, the Teutonic Knights in Bad Mergentheim and the bailiffs of Tauberbischofsheim already appreciated the region's wine.

If we continue to be guided by noble palates, the Counts of Wertheim were no snobs either. They source their wines equally from the Tauber and the Mainvalley. The most famous vineyard today is undoubtedly the Homburger Kallmuth. Bronnbach Monastery, Wertheim Castle and City, Homburg Castle and others provide the historical and cultural framework.

Even if it's difficult, that MainTo leave the valley, take the climb from Dettelbach to Neuses am Berg. You will be rewarded for this effort with a wonderful view Mainvalley and the Steigerwald.
