Overnight place: Passau
Your first leg takes you through the upper Danube valley to Schlögen. Continuing on to Engelhartszell, you can visit Austria's only Trappist monastery, renowned for its Rococo church. Delicious liqueurs are brewed in the monastery cellar. Afterwards, you'll cycle to the impressive "Schlögen Bend," where the Danube makes a 180-degree turn. Rental bikes will be available in Passau from 9:00 AM.
Overnight place: Schlögener Schlinge region
The narrow, densely wooded valley slowly widens. You cycle through the fertile Eferding Basin in the direction of Linz. Enjoy a stroll through the magical old town.

Start today's tour with a detour to Enns, the oldest town in Austria. You will then cycle through beautiful meadow landscapes and the tranquil hinterland, past the Celtic village of Mitterkirche, the collegiate church in Baumgartenberg and the romantic Clam Castle. You will soon reach the beautiful baroque town of Grein, where you can visit the oldest town theater in Austria.

The journey through the Danube landscape of the Strudengau and Nibelungengau impresses with high, densely forested rock formations to the left and right of the Danube. The pilgrimage church of Maria Taferl is enthroned high above the Danube and the Benedictine Abbey of Melk greets you from afar high above the Danube.

Another highlight on this bike tour is the enchanting landscape of the Wachau. Vineyard terraces and apricot trees on the banks, with castles, palaces and monasteries in between. On small excursion boats you can also take a bike break. On your journey to Krems pass the charming wine villages of Spitz, Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein. Cozy wine taverns lure you along the way - here you can experience Austrian hospitality up close!

You leave the unique cultural landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage region of Wachau by train. Once you have arrived in Tulln, you continue by bike. Before Vienna, the valley narrows again, the Danube passes through the Vienna Gate on the edge of the Vienna Woods and leads you via Klosterneuburg, where you can visit the Verdun Altar, the highlight of medieval goldsmith art. to the waltz city of Vienna.

The Donauauen National Park begins right outside Vienna and is an idyllic landscape with a variety of fauna and flora. Past Orth Castle and Eckartsau Castle you reach the spa town of Bad Deutsch Altenburg, where the Romans left their mark.

Nestled between the Hainburg mountains and the small Carpathians, the blue ribbon of the Danube meanders. The Slovakian capital Bratislava enchants with a dreamy old town and numerous magnificent buildings. The castle towers high above the Danube.

The Szyche Island is a paradise for birds and fish. Amidst this pristine landscape dotted with small islands, you'll find idyllic farming villages and a labyrinth of Danube tributaries. Your destination for the day is the city of Győr, situated at the confluence of three rivers. The city enchants visitors with its baroque old town. Recommendation: Take the train for the convenient journey between Mosonmagyaróvár and Győr. Train tickets are available from ticket machines at the station. This shortens the cycling leg to approximately 44 km.
Overnight place: Györ
The Babolna National Stud is world famous for its Arabian breeding. Cycle through gently rolling agricultural land back to the Danube to the divided town of Komarom, King Matthias's favorite town.
Overnight place: Komarno region
You cycle along the Slovakian bank of the Danube on causeways and side roads with little traffic through small farming villages and past the Roman fort of Kelemantia to the bishop and royal town of Esztergom, which with the basilica as the largest church in Hungary is a glamorous highlight of this journey.
Overnight place: Danube Bend
Amidst the rolling hills, the river splits: On Szentendre Island, you cycle through small, idyllic villages. With its countless small craft shops and the Skanzen open-air museum, the town of Szentendre on the mainland is world-famous. A truly special highlight: a boat trip to Budapest offers a unique view of the city's most famous sights. Outside of the boat season, train tickets are available as an alternative.

The morning is for free usage. The train connections from Budapest are very good (to Vienna every hour, journey time approx. 3 hours), the bus also stops at Vienna Airport.
