Danube Cycle Path - Time for the countryside and its people

Your leisurely journey begins along the Danube, cycling through the idyllic Upper Danube Valley. Upon arriving in Engelhartszell, you'll encounter a piece of Austrian monastic culture: the country's only Trappist monastery opens its doors – and its treasure trove of homemade liqueurs. A tasting is practically obligatory and a delightful introduction to Austrian culinary culture.

A natural wonder awaits you today: the famous Schlögen Bend, where the Danube winds its way through the valley in dramatic curves. Today's ride is leisurely: your route takes you through the wide, flat Machland region – ideal for relaxed cycling. In Mitterkirchen, the Celtic village invites you to step back in time. A sweet stop in Mauthausen is a must: the Manner factory shop offers pink-wrapped treats to take home.

Today's leg of the journey leads through tranquil floodplains and the mysterious Strudengau – once feared by boatmen, now a natural idyll with dense forests, meadows, and birdsong. The hotel welcomes you with its charming atmosphere – a little gem right on the Danube.

Your journey culminates in the waltz city of Vienna. The final kilometers lead through the Danube wetlands before you reach the hustle and bustle of the capital. And then? The evening ends in style: perhaps with a stroll to the Hofburg Palace or through the Schönbrunn Palace gardens.

After days filled with nature, culinary delights, and culture, you begin your journey home. During seasons A and B, the return trip is conveniently by train (please note: your own bicycles are not included). In season C, you travel comfortably back to Passau by bus – bicycle transport is included. Alternatively, a return trip by train is also possible upon request. Those who simply can't bear to leave can treat themselves to an extra night or two enjoying the Viennese flair.
