Overnight stay in Magdeburg

You cycle through the Elbe River floodplains to Aken. The small town is now a listed historical site and includes a city wall with 14 defensive towers and three city gate towers, which have survived almost 700 years without major damage. Your journey continues to Dessau. Dessau was once the residence of the Ascanians and, with the establishment of the Bauhaus in 1925, became an internationally renowned center of art, architecture, and design.

Today you can either follow the Elbe directly or cycle via the baroque town of Oranienbaum to Wittenberg. Via the Elbe you reach the town of Wörlitz with its 112-hectare Wörlitzer Park, which was built between 1765 and 1819 as the first English-style landscape park on the European mainland. The largest exhibition on the history of the Reformation in the Luther Hall in Wittenberg invites you to follow in the footsteps of Martin Luther. The town church of St. Marien (UNESCO World Heritage) is also worth seeing.

Today's route takes you past Lichtenberg Castle, through Pretzsch, along the Elbe River. Your destination is the former fortress town of Torgau. This historic site, at the Elbe Bridge, was the site where the Soviets and Americans clashed during World War II.

On today's stage, the path leads through the town of Mühlberg with the Cistercian monastery and the Treblitz tree park. Further along the Elbe to Strehla, an idyllic town with a history of more than 1000 years. Continue cycling to the former steel town of Riesa, where you can visit the pasta factory for free.

From Strehla, an idyllic town with over 1000 years of history, the route continues along the Elbe River to Riesa. In this former steel town, you can visit the famous pasta factory before continuing on toward Diesbar-Seußlitz. This wine-growing town, with its baroque castle and magnificent garden, invites you to take a break – here you can discover and taste Saxon wines. The route then continues along Germany's northernmost vineyards toward Dresden.
