Bike tour in the heart of the Camargue

This five-day cycling tour takes you to the treasures of southern France and the Camargue. Stroll through Arles and its picturesque city center, visit the Roman amphitheater, before setting off for the Camargue with a first stop in Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Along the way, you'll see white horses, flamingos, and bulls, which are emblematic of the region. Immerse yourself in the Camargue by stopping at the Vaccarès pond or visiting the Pont-du-Gau ornithological park. The next day, cycle through the countryside to reach Aigues-Mortes, a fortified town famous for its purple salt marshes, which can be explored by miniature train. The final stop on this cycling tour allows you to soak up the unique atmosphere of the Camargue one last time before returning to your starting point: Arles.

Arrive independently. Enjoy a stroll through the narrow streets, discover the rich Roman and Romanesque heritage, and settle into your accommodation during check-in hours.

Overnight stay in Arles

Stroll through the streets of Arles and visit the Arena and the Amphitheater. Leave the city via a cycle path to reach the Camargue, where you'll enjoy a dry and wild landscape. See white wild horses and bulls roaming the countryside! End the day in Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a beautiful and typical village of the region. Take a walk along the marina and enjoy the stunning light of the sunset.

This shorter tour takes you by bicycle through the Camargue, where you'll discover typical Camargue houses (mas) and also manades (horse riding is possible in the manades). If you wish, you can end your tour at the Pont du Gau ornithological park. A must-see attraction, it allows you to observe numerous bird species in their natural habitat, such as pink flamingos, herons, and owls. A majestic spectacle of flora and fauna awaits.

Alternatively, long tour (approx. 64 km): circular tour to the Étang du Vaccarès

This long tour takes you around the Vaccarès pond, where you can admire the local flora and fauna. Part of the journey involves cycling along the coast. If you'd like to stay overnight in Saintes-Maries, you can take a boat trip in the Camargue marshes (about 1,5 hours) or go horseback riding.

Continue your cycling tour by crossing the Camargue from east to west. Today you'll reach the fortified city of Aigues-Mortes. Don't miss a visit to its salt pans on a small train: discover the process of harvesting and producing Camargue salt and enjoy magnificent views of the purple waters of the salt pans and the fortifications of Aigues-Mortes. You can also cycle to Grau-du-Roi by following the cycle path to enjoy the mild Mediterranean Sea at the end of your tour.

Leaving the fortifications of Aigues-Mortes and its salt flats, you'll take the Via Rhona. Follow the Petit Rhône and continue into the Camargue for one last chance to observe the wildlife and the surrounding traditional farmhouses. The wild landscapes gradually give way to a more urban atmosphere on the outskirts of Arles. Lose yourself one last time in the narrow streets before bidding farewell to the region... or perhaps extending your stay!
