A fuel surcharge of up to 8% of the package tour price may be levied on this bike and boat tour. The final amount will be determined and communicated 20–30 days before departure. Payment is due directly upon boarding the ship. This policy is in accordance with §651f of the German Civil Code (BGB) and serves to adjust for current fuel costs from our service partners.

Embarkation is at 2:00 PM (4:00 PM on May 3, 2026 / May 2, 2027) at the charming town center and train station of the historic port town of Enkhuizen. After everyone has checked in, the captain will give an introduction to your sailing hotel, and the tour guides will provide an overview of the upcoming week. Following all necessary safety instructions, the ship will depart for your first destination of the week, Medemblik. After dinner, your tour guides will lead you through this historic town, renowned for its sailing culture.

In the morning, after a thorough bike fitting, you can set off on your first bike tour. We will ride in two groups, with one guide riding a longer route while the other group chooses a shorter route. The highlight of both routes is the picturesque village of Twisk, a former peat mining town that never experienced great poverty and is still in its original historical state.

After the bike tour, the ship continues to Texel, the largest Dutch island in the North Sea. Note: If the weather is bad, an overnight stay in Den Oever may be necessary.

The island of Texel is a dream destination for cyclists with its varied landscape, picturesque villages and special cycle paths. Your guide will take you on a tour of the island. The program also includes a visit to the seal sanctuary “Ecomare”. The foundation's main task is to rescue and heal birds and seals, but also to inform visitors about the area and the wildlife.

Overnight location: Island of Texel

Today the sails are set. Your destination is the island of Terschelling, located further east . You'll cross the Wadden Sea with its many sandbanks, where, with a bit of luck, you might spot seals . A hearty lunch will be served during the sailing trip today instead of dinner . Weather permitting, you'll dine on deck. The exact route and duration of the journey depend on the tidal currents and wind. You'll arrive in Terschelling during the afternoon . The charming villages on this narrow, approximately 30-kilometer-long island have retained much of their old-world charm. In the evening, you'll have the opportunity to explore the beautiful island's harbor with its many inviting restaurants and pubs.

Overnight stay: Terschelling Island

Yesterday you spent most of your time sailing; today it's back on your bike. Terschelling has a lot to offer: nature and culture, 70 kilometers of cycle paths, and four charming villages. West-Terschelling is the island's largest town, with numerous shops and pubs. The island's landmark, the 400-year-old Brandaris lighthouse, is visible from afar. Also worth seeing is the De Boschplaat nature reserve, characterized by moors, salt marshes, beaches, and dunes. With a bit of luck, you'll see plenty of ducks, stilts, and large colonies of spoonbills and great black-backed gulls. In the late afternoon, the ship sets sail again for Harlingen, the most important port on the Frisian mainland.

Overnight stay: Harlingen

The bike tour starts after breakfast in Harlingen. Passing through Franeker, home to the famous planetarium by Eise Eisinga, the route continues by bike through the beautiful, expansive Frisian countryside dotted with small villages, all the way to Makkum on the eastern shore of the IJsselmeer. If you opt for the longer route, you will also visit Bolsward, one of the eleven Frisian cities.

Overnight stay: Makkum

From Makkum, the cycle route continues to Stavoren. The shorter route leads through the old trading town of Hindeloopen, world-famous for its paintings. Hindeloopen is also home to the first Frisian ice skating museum. The longer route follows several lakes of the Frisian Lake District , revealing a completely different landscape. At the end of the day, a boat will take you back to Enkhuizen from Stavoren.

Overnight stay: Enkhuizen

About the ship
The sailing ship Leafde fan Fryslân will be used for cycling and sailing trips for the first time in 2018 and is operated by the owner couple Joris and Rinske de Wit, who have also owned the three-masted clipper for many years. Sea of Friesland The Leafde Fan Fryslân will operate in the winter of 2023-24. In a unique operation, the large sailing ship will be disassembled into two sections and lengthened by a new 14-meter section. An additional fourth mast will also be installed. This will make the Leafde Fan Fryslân the only four-masted schooner in Dutch waters in 2024. The luxurious vessel boasts an upscale interior. During the tulip season, the Leafde Fan Fryslân will offer guided cycling and sailing tours, as well as guided and unguided excursions on the Frisian Wadden Sea in July and August.

Description of the cabins
On the lower deck, the Leafde fan Fryslân has sixteen comfortable cabins. These include twelve double cabins (10 m²) and one smaller twin cabin (9 m²) with separate beds that can be pushed together in most cabins, a junior suite (12 m²) with two separate beds that can be pushed together and a small sitting area, and two single cabins (7 m²). Two of the twin cabins can be booked as triple cabins (the third bed being a bunk bed).

On the upper deck there are 4 magnificent suites (18 m²) with two separate beds placed side by side as a hotel bed (200 x 190 cm), a comfortable seating area, a television, a double glass door and a small private balcony.

All cabins/suites feature a private bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, air conditioning, hairdryer, mini-safe and 230-volt power outlet. The cabins have portholes and/or a deck hatch that can be opened.

Description of the ship
On the lower deck, you'll find the air-conditioned, nautical-themed restaurant serving delicious meals. In the wheelhouse on the upper deck, the Leafde fan Fryslân boasts a cozy lounge with large windows, a comfortable seating area, a television, and a charming, well-stocked bar. Wi-Fi is available. Here, and on deck where you can sit even in good weather, you'll enjoy the best views of the water.

The ship – your floating hotel

Between bike rides, you'll travel by ship, which will take you to a new destination each day. On board, you'll enjoy breakfast, dinner, and overnight stays. A packed lunch is provided daily, and you'll usually have the choice between a shorter or longer bike tour. Of course, you can also spend a day relaxing on board. Rental bikes are available, but you can also bring your own (please indicate this when booking).

Guided bike tours

The daily bike tours are accompanied by a competent and multilingual tour guide. On days with two route options, the guide will accompany either the shorter or the longer tour, in consultation with the group. For guests who prefer to cycle independently and at their own pace, our detailed cycling map and a Ride with GPS app are available.

Good to know

On some days, you can choose between a longer and a shorter bike tour. Please note that the shorter bike tour may not include all of the highlights mentioned.
If you prefer not to cycle one day, you are welcome to stay on board and relax while the ship sails to the next dock.
On the day of arrival you can leave your luggage on board the ship from 11:00 a.m.
The distances for the recommended cycling tours are approximate.
The travel program and itinerary are subject to possible changes for nautical, technical or meteorological reasons or due to other unforeseen events.

Please remember that the ship is both your hotel and a machine that needs to be maintained and operated—both day and night. Operational noise is therefore unavoidable.

Important information about the program of a Sail & Bike trip:

A Sail & Bike tour always includes a touch of adventure: For this trip, only the embarkation and disembarkation port of Enkhuizen on the planned arrival and departure days is 100% fixed in advance. The route to be covered depends primarily on the weather and is determined anew each day. Route changes or changes to the order of the individual stages are therefore always possible. The skipper and crew will discuss the possibilities with the guests daily and will do everything to offer you an unforgettable, varied, and active week full of culture and nature. Let yourself be surprised!
