island hopping Stockholm

You start the day with a bike ride across the small island of Royal Djurgården, a green oasis in the middle of the city. Here you will find wide meadows, lush forests and charming cafés such as Rosendals Trädgårdscafé. Sights such as the Vasa Museum and the Abba Museum are also worth a visit.

After leaving Djurgården behind, you drive to Djursholm. From here you take a small ferry (20 minutes) to the Bogesundslandet peninsula and cycle through a nature reserve with quiet gravel roads. Finally, you reach the picturesque village of Vaxholm, the "capital of the archipelago". Stroll through the narrow streets and enjoy a break in one of the cafés.

You begin your day with a ferry crossing (48 minutes) to Lillsved on the island of Värmdö. You cycle south until you reach the village of Siggesta Gard. From there, you continue on a few gravel roads across the island. In Fagerdala, you cycle along the water to Strömma Canal. You cross a bridge and are now only a few kilometers from your overnight accommodation.

You start the day with a bike ride of a few kilometers to reach the ferry to the idyllic island of Sandön with the picturesque village of Sandhamn. Sandön has a distinctive nature with sand dunes (hence the name which means “sand island” in Swedish), cliffs, pine forests and beaches. You can stay here all day or stay a few hours before taking the ferry to Runmarö, one of the largest islands in the archipelago with beautiful nature and beautiful bike paths. Runmarö is a picturesque island that offers a real archipelago experience. The calcareous rock provides the conditions for a great floral display with 27 different orchid species. Here you will also find the island's highest mountain, Telegrafberget, a popular tourist destination. Whether you stay in Sandhamn all day or continue on to Runmarö, at the end of the day you take the ferry and cycle back to your hotel Fågelbrohus.

Important: You cycle a total of about 6 km on a busy main road. (3 km Fågelbrohus – Stavsnäs, and 3 km Stavsnäs – Fågelbrohus)

Today you leave the quiet countryside in Fågelbrolandet and cycle west. Soon you reach the beautiful and quiet nature in Farstalandet. You cycle around Farstalandet, where you also pass the modern art museum Artipelag, and then reach the picturesque town of Gustavsberg, beautifully situated by the water. You continue and cross the Skuru Bridge before arriving in Saltsjöbaden, a beautiful area on a peninsula deep in the Stockholm archipelago. Your hotel is beautifully situated by the sea.

Leaving Salsjöbaden, you will soon enter the beautiful Erstaviken nature area. You will cycle along a gravel path past Erstaviksbadet beach, which is perfect for an early morning swim. You will continue on gravel roads through Nacka Nature Reserve towards Stockholm. Cars and motor vehicles are prohibited throughout Erstaviken Nature Reserve and Nacka Nature Reserve. Here you will experience silence, enchanted forests, sparkling lakes and abundant wildlife, and you can find your own perfect spot for a picnic in nature before arriving back in Stockholm. Your ride to Stockholm will take you along the water, past the central islands of Södermalm, Långholmen and Kungsholmen. On the way to central Stockholm, you will cycle along the shore of Riddarfjärden, past Stockholm City Hall - where the Nobel Prize Banquet is held -, the Swedish Parliament - spectacularly located on its own island - and the Royal Palace before reaching your hotel.
