Overnight place: Flensburg
Parallel to the Flensburg Fjord, follow the Baltic Coast Cycle Path to the north. Soon you are already in Denmark and it goes straight to the coast. In Gråsten, just before Haff Nybøl Nor, it is worth taking a detour to the beautiful castle with its garden, the main attraction of this area and the summer residence of the royal family. Through green fields you continue on the island of Als to Sønderborg.
Overnight place: Sønderborg
Today you explore the island. Various castles are on your way. There are also a few lighthouses, most of which date from the time under German rule. By the way: did you know that ring riding was invented in Augustenborg? In the evening, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the beautiful harbor of Sønderborg.
Overnight place: Sønderborg
From Sønderborg we continue on the Baltic Coast Cycle Route. Vester Sottrup has a gleaming white 12th-century church to admire. The Warnitz Bay near Varnaes is one of the most beautiful in Northern Schleswig. You will soon reach your destination for the day, Aabenraa, a former fishing village that developed into a seafaring town in the 17th and 18th centuries. Aabenraa's ships have sailed all over the world, and the three mackerel in the town's coat of arms and the Maritime Museum still bear witness to the town's origins.
Overnight place: Aabenraa
A round tour takes you first on the Baltic Coast Cycle Route to Haderslev, the 700-year-old provincial town, which still has its original road network to this day. Experience centuries of architectural history through the well-preserved houses and the cathedral in the old town or visit one of the numerous museums. You cycle back to Aabenraa on the Heerweg-Bicyclefernweg (also called Ochsenweg).
Overnight place: Aabenraa
Today you again follow the Hærweg from fjord to fjord. Through the inland and past lakes you cycle through fields and small towns before you cross the border back into Germany and soon reach Flensburg again.
