Tour map of the Lahn Cycle Path

Day 1: Arrival at the source of the Lahn

The source of the Lahn is in the middle of Germany in the beautiful Rothaar Mountains. You spend the night directly at the source of the Lahn in the middle of the forest in the rustic, comfortable "Forsthaus Lahnquelle" (for train passengers pick-up service from Feudingen train station / car park at the hotel / rental bike at the hotel).

Day 2: Source of the Lahn - Biedenkopf, about 30 km

The first day of cycling flies by. From the source of the Lahn you roll through a wooded landscape via Feudingen to Bad Laasphe and further past old half-timbered farms to Biedenkopf. Here you can look forward to the romantic alleys of the half-timbered old town on the Schlossberg and to the Landgrave Castle Biedenkopf, which was built by Heinrich III in the mid-15th century. was built in Hesse-Marburg. It is now one of the most important cultural monuments in the state of Hesse! The past is alive in the romantic alleys of the half-timbered town on the Schlossberg with old half-timbered courtyards and Romanesque village churches.

Overnight stay in Biedenkopf

Day 3: Biedenkopf - Marburg, about 39 km

You roll comfortably through the widening Lahn valley to Sarnau to the Otto-Ubbelohde-Museum. It's worth taking a break here, because Otto Ubbelohde became known and famous for his drawings for book illustrations and for his illustrations for the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. You only have to cycle a few kilometers to the old university town of Marburg. A visit to the famous Elisabeth Church and the Marburg Landgrave Castle is worthwhile. Let yourself be captivated by the fairytale old town and enjoy beautiful evening hours in international restaurants or in quaint student pubs.

Overnight stay in Marburg

Day 4: Marburg - Giessen, about 34 km

Saying goodbye to enchanting Marburg is difficult! But in the wide Lahn valley you roll quickly on flat paths to Gießen and can enjoy the ride through fields and fields without any worries. The Mathematicum, the first hands-on mathematical museum in the world, attracts visitors to Gießen. Over 120 exhibits open a new door to mathematics. Visitors of all ages and educational backgrounds experiment: they put together jigsaw puzzles, build bridges, rack their brains with riddles, watch a ball race, stand in a giant soap skin and much more. Let yourself be surprised!

Overnight stay in Giessen

Day 5: Giessen - Wetzlar, about 21 km

After an invigorating cyclist's breakfast, you will soon reach the cathedral city of Wetzlar in the morning. Be sure to plan a visit to the old town - it's worth it! Afterwards, the Lahn valley has a nice detour in store for you: the Grube Fortuna visitor mine offers you breathtaking insights deep into the interior of the earth. Old miner traditions come alive - a world that will fascinate you. On a guided tour (50 minutes) you can experience underground how ore mining is demonstrated with original machines.

Overnight stay in Wetzlar

Day 6: Wetzlar - Weilburg, about 32 km

The first daily kilometers run in the whooshing wind. The route to Weilburg, whose Renaissance castle is located on a high rocky ridge above the Lahn, remains unforgettable in terms of landscape. Look forward to an informative castle tour, the beautiful castle garden with cafe and the only ship tunnel in Germany, which was completed in 1847 and shortens a large, wide loop of the Lahn.

Overnight stay in Weilburg

Day 7: Weilburg - Limburg, about 40 km

Today, the course of the river meanders between the Taunus and the Westerwald. You cycle on the paved towpath via Aumenau and Runkel to Limburg with its world-famous cathedral. Look forward to Limburg, because only a few towns have retained their entire ensemble of medieval buildings almost intact. That is why today the formerly walled city center with its half-timbered buildings from the 13th - 18th century (often decorated with colorful figurative carvings) is completely under monument protection! There are Burgmannenhöfe and canons' houses, houses of wealthy patricians and numerous hall houses, the typical commercial and residential buildings of the merchant lords.

Overnight stay in Limburg

Day 8: Limburg - Nassau, about 27-39 km

Enjoy a scenic highlight today: Away from any traffic, you roll through an untouched valley landscape from Diez to Balduinstein. This day has two ascents in store, whereby you can easily avoid an ascent by train (11 km). Then relax with a rest at the Arnstein monastery. A beautiful forest path takes you to Nassau with its small castle, which you can still conquer in the afternoon.

Overnight stay in Nassau

Day 9: Nassau - Koblenz, about 28 km

The historic Wirtshaus an der Lahn beckons on the right side of the Lahn before you enter Bad Ems cycle in. Marvel at the numerous buildings that tell of the world's most important spa architecture, Roman history and German romanticism. And you continue by bike, after 12 km the Rhine Valley opens up before your eyes. What a wonderful view!
