Johannisburg Castle in Aschaffenburg am Main bike path

Day 1: Arrival in Schweinfurt

Individual arrival in the former imperial city. DB arrival possible, parking facilities and bicycles at the hotel.

Day 2: Sommerach 40 km

A beautiful cycle route takes you along the first vineyards through the Volkach Main loop into the heart of the Franconian wine country. Sommerach awaits you with baroque town houses, half-timbered winegrowers' courtyards and the Winzerkeller, the oldest winegrowers' cooperative in Franconia. Look forward to the "Kostbar" with wine advice, wine sales and wine bar, to the "summer bar" to relax and to the wine school - the only school where enjoying wine is not only allowed, but compulsory.

Day 3: Ochsenfurt/Sommerhausen 35 – 42 km

Already in Dettelbach, a worthwhile break in the old town with the almost completely preserved city wall, many small turrets, cobblestone streets and picturesque rows of houses lures. Kitzingen awaits you with its historic market square and Renaissance town hall as soon as you are in the saddle. You cycle to Ochsenfurt via Marktbreit with its beautiful ensemble of Maintor and Malerwinkelhaus. Look forward to Sommerhausen, a Franconian wine village straight out of a picture book. You spend the night with the winemaker, look over his shoulder at work, marvel at his wine cellar and taste his fine wines.

Day 4: Karlstadt 41 – 48 km

Let yourself be inspired today by the romantic townscape of Eibelstadt, whose city wall encloses many sights. You cycle through Randersacker, where wine has been grown since 779 AD. The cycle path leads along famous vineyards such as Teufelskeller, Marsberg and Sonnenstuhl to Würzburg. Marvel at the market square, the town hall, the old Main Bridge, the Marienkapelle with sandstone figures and the prince-bishop's residence. You then cycle via Veitshöchheim with its summer residence and French rococo garden to Thüngersheim, where exquisite specialties such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Rieslaner are grown. Visit the modern vinotheque and convince yourself of the skills of the Thüngersheimers before you cycle on to Karlstadt.

Day 5: Homburg 28 / 42 / 58 km

Today, the characteristic wine-growing landscape gives way to shady forests. In just 10 minutes travel time (Karlstadt - Gemünden) or 25 minutes travel time (Karlstadt - Lohr) with the DB you can shorten your cycling stage. No matter how you decide: Lohr welcomes you with its fairytale old town. Visit the Spessart Museum in the old castle or the small school museum. You then cycle 28 idyllic kilometers directly along the river to the romantic wine town of Homburg with its excellent Edelfrau and Kallmuth vineyards.

Day 6: Bürgstadt 46 km

Passing Wertheim with its charming half-timbered houses and winding old town, you cycle mostly along the shore and enjoy pure nature. Near Bürgstadt you will discover vines and vines again, on which mostly red wine grapes are now ripening. Look forward to a pretty wine village, small delicacies in the Häckerwirtschaft, the red wine hiking trail and the Martinskapelle with its unique interior painting.

Day 7: Aschaffenburg 46 km

Just a stone's throw and you're in Miltenberg with its wonderful market square and pretty half-timbered houses, before you cycle parallel to the red wine trail to Großheubach. Here the vines grow mainly on steep red sandstone terraces, the basis for the noble red grape varieties Blauer Spätburgunder, Frühburgunder, Portugieser or St. Laurent. You roll quickly on flat paths via Klingenberg, where excellent red wines are also grown, to the sandstone castle of Johannisburg in Aschaffenburg.

Day 8: Aschaffenburg Departure

Today your beautiful wine journey ends after breakfast in Aschaffenburg. DB return journey possible or return transfer to Schweinfurt (departure every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m., duration approx. 2 hours).
