Look forward to this special cycle tour that leads along the Main. You start on the still very small red Main in the famous festival city of Bayreuth. Only at the historic beer town of Kulmbach does the water of the second source river, the Weißer Main, flow in and only now you are really cycling on the Main. The course of the river has wonderful highlights in store for you over the next few days. Discover the magnificent baroque city of Bamberg, whose old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stroll through the pretty alleys of the wine town of Volkach and marvel at the old residential city of Würzburg. The Würzburg Residence is considered the main work of southern German baroque and is one of the most important palaces in Europe. For this reason, UNESCO included it in the World Heritage List in 1981 - as the third building in Germany. This journey is a journey from the small river to the big river, a journey from the beer region to the wine region and a cultural journey that grows from kilometer to kilometer.

Day 1: Arrival in Bayreuth
Arrive early, it's worth it. Historically grown as a margravial residence and world-famous for the Richard Wagner Festival, Bayreuth is just waiting to be discovered.
Overnight stay in Bayreuth
Day 2: Bayreuth - Lichtenfels, about 61 km
Today you follow the young red Main to Kulmbach. A cozy town awaits you here in an enchanting Upper Franconian landscape at the confluence of the Red and White Main and at the foot of the Franconian Forest and Fichtelgebirge. Visit Kulmbach's old town and the Plassenburg, which towers majestically above the town. Now that the red and white Main flow together, you are actually cycling along the Main! This is how you reach the pretty Burgkunstadt, which invites you to take a break, and the German basket town of Lichtenfels, your overnight stay today. A detour to the baroque pilgrimage basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, which was built by the famous architect Balthasar Neumann, is also worthwhile.
Overnight stay in Lichtenfels
Day 3: Lichtenfels - Bamberg, about 47 km
If you want, you can take a slightly hilly detour to Banz Monastery right at the beginning of the day. Today, the young Main keeps damming up to form small lakes, bringing you idyllically to Bamberg. Look forward to the old town, which is well worth seeing and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1993. It's great that you still have enough time today and can marvel at the late Romanesque-early Gothic imperial cathedral with the world-famous Bamberg rider, the old bridge town hall in the middle of the Regnitz and the old court, which is one of the most impressive buildings in the city.
Overnight stay in Bamberg
Day 4: Bamberg - Hassfurt, about 37 km
In the morning you follow the Regnitz for a short distance to the Main, which leads you to the Maria Limbach pilgrimage church, which is well worth seeing. Now the first vineyards begin, marking the border between beer and wine Franconia. End a sunny day of cycling in Haßfurt and marvel at the historic center.
Overnight stay in Hassfurt
Day 5: Hassfurt - Volkach, about 56 km
For a little refreshment, a detour to the pretty town of Theres is worthwhile this morning. After a worthwhile break, you cycle along the banks of the Main to Schweinfurt. Discover the testimonies of the old imperial city here, before you cycle on and, past countless vineyards, you reach the small wine village of Wipfeld, which is steeped in history. Take a leisurely break, marvel at the valuable old buildings in the village and enjoy the idyllic location. In the afternoon you cycle via Fahr, the town of the Bocksbeutel, to Volkach - famous for its excellent wines!
Overnight stay in Volkach
Day 6: Volkach - Würzburg, about 65 km
Since the well-paved cycle path is completely flat today, Würzburg can be reached quickly, so you can go on an individual city tour in the afternoon. Marvel at the market square, the town hall, the old Main Bridge with a view of the fortress and pilgrimage church, as well as the rococo facade of the Falcon House and the Marienkapelle with its sandstone figures by Tilmto Riemenschneider. The highlight is the former prince-bishop's residence, which was built between 1720 and 1744 according to plans by Balthasar Neumann and is today one of the most beautiful palace buildings of the southern German baroque due to its unity.
