A beautiful cycle route takes you along the first vineyards through the Volkacher Mainloop into the heart of the Franconian wine country. Sommerach awaits you with baroque town houses, half-timbered wineries and the Winzerkeller, the oldest wine cooperative in Franconia. Look forward to the “Kostbar” with wine advice, wine sales and wine bars, to the “summer bar” to relax and to the wine school – the only school where drinking wine is not only allowed, but mandatory.

Already in Dettelbach there is a worthwhile break in the old town with the almost completely preserved city wall, many small towers, cobblestone streets and picturesque rows of houses. As soon as you are in the saddle, Kitzingen awaits you with its historic market square and the Renaissance town hall. Via Marktbreit with a beautiful ensemble Maingate and Malerwinkelhaus you cycle to Ochsenfurt. Look forward to Sommerhausen, a Franconian wine village straight out of a picture book. You spend the night with the winemaker, look over his shoulder as he works, marvel at his wine cellar and taste his fine wines.

Let yourself be inspired today by the romantic townscape of Eibelstadt, whose city wall encloses many sights. You cycle through Randersacker, where wine has been grown since 779 AD. The cycle path leads along famous vineyards such as Teufelskeller, Marsberg and Sonnenstuhl to Würzburg. Marvel at the market square, the town hall, the old one Mainbridge, the Lady Chapel with sandstone figures and the prince-bishop's residence. You then cycle via Veitshöchheim with its summer residence and French rococo garden to Thüngersheim, where exquisite specialties such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Rieslaner are grown. Visit the modern wine shop and see for yourself the skills of the people of Thüngersheim before cycling on to Karlstadt.

Today, the characteristic wine-growing landscape gives way to shady forests. In just 10 minutes travel time (Karlstadt - Gemünden) or 25 minutes travel time (Karlstadt - Lohr) with the DB you can shorten your cycling stage. No matter how you decide: Lohr welcomes you with its fairytale old town. Visit the Spessart Museum in the old castle or the small school museum. You then cycle 28 idyllic kilometers directly along the river to the romantic wine town of Homburg with its excellent Edelfrau and Kallmuth vineyards.

Passing Wertheim with its charming half-timbered houses and winding old town, you cycle mostly along the shore and enjoy pure nature. Near Bürgstadt you will discover vines and vines again, on which mostly red wine grapes are now ripening. Look forward to a pretty wine village, small delicacies in the Häckerwirtschaft, the red wine hiking trail and the Martinskapelle with its unique interior painting.
Overnight place: Burgstadt
Just a stone's throw and you are in Miltenberg with its wonderful market square and pretty half-timbered houses before you cycle parallel to the red wine hiking trail to Großheubach. Here the vines grow predominantly on steep red sandstone terraces, the basis for the noble red grape varieties Blauer Spätburgunder, Frühburgunder, Portugieser and St. Laurent. On flat paths you roll quickly over Klingenberg, where excellent red wines are also grown, to the Johannisburg sandstone castle in Aschaffenburg.
