Learn moreThis easy 5-day cycling tour leads from Würzburg to Aschaffenburg along the MainThe route passes through picturesque towns such as Karlstadt, Gemünden, and Wertheim with its half-timbered houses. It has been awarded five stars by the ADFC (German Cyclists' Federation). MainThe cycle path is almost entirely paved, virtually car-free, and without any significant inclines. Daily stages range from approximately 41 to 77 km. Highlights include Würzburg's Residence and Fortress, Miltenberg's old town, and Johannisburg Castle in Aschaffenburg.
Würzburg is definitely worth an early arrival, as the city has a lot to offer. Marvel at the market square, the town hall, the old town Mainbridge with a view of the fortress and pilgrimage church as well as over the rococo facade of the Falkenhaus and over the Lady Chapel with its sandstone figures by Tilmto Riemenschneider.

Passing through Veitshöchheim with its prince-bishop's summer residence and French Rococo garden, you cycle to Karlstadt with its charming town center. The landscape now changes dramatically, and the characteristic vineyards give way to shady forests right next to the cycle path. You then enjoy a leisurely ride on flat paths to the three-river town of Gemünden.

The wooded hills through which the... Main meanders through. You cycle past the town of Rothenfels, whose castle guards the narrow valley, to Marktheidenfeld and Wertheim. Let yourself be enchanted by the graceful half-timbered houses of the winding old town.

If you pedal hard first thing in the morning, you'll be in Miltenberg by lunchtime, which proudly presents itself with its half-timbered houses! In the afternoon you roll quickly on flat paths between the peaks of the Spessart and the Odenwald to the Johannisburg sandstone castle in Aschaffenburg.
