In terms of landscape, the route can be divided into three areas. Cross the rural region of Dithmarschen north of Hamburg to Büsum. Experience the Eiderstedt peninsula with the widest beach on the coast in St. Peter Ording. Over the dykes like the white horse rider

A very nice bike tour divided into good sections. If you are not so motivated on a day with a longer stage, there are well-described and beautiful alternative routes as a shortcut. We were incredibly lucky with the weather - apart from two hours of rain, everything was sunny. The wind was very strong but all but one day with a tailwind. We only flew over the dykes like the gray rider and therefore had a lot of time to look at things, even on longer stages. But with a headwind we would certainly have had to have e-bikes, especially the 90 km stage from Büsum to Husum would have been almost impossible with our normal bikes or we would have had to take the alternative route. With the bikes to Sylt was not ideal. On the outward journey we had little space, but on the return journey there would have been a bicycle block between 15 p.m. and 19 p.m. for the trains. You're stuck there. But we didn't bother and just got on the train. The train driver even helped us store the bikes. But a number of passengers complained. It would therefore be advisable to leave the bikes on the mainland and rent some in Westerland (the organizer could give you a voucher for bike rental instead of the ticket for this). All in all a very nice bike tour in a wonderful landscape, which for us "mountain people" is almost exotic.

Diverse prospects - great insights

After a rainy start in Hamburg, the weather became more suitable for cycling from day to day. The wind mostly held itself in check, which is why we were able to enjoy the trip. It is difficult to name the highlights of our bike tour, because each day brought its own highlights: whether it was the ride along the dyke through what felt like millions of sheep, the next day it was the column of houses in Glücksburg or the lock at Brunsbüttel, the wind picked up Nordstrand, the crossing to Sylt or a great hotel. We enjoyed the trip and learned a lot about ourselves - because the North Sea gives you what you give it. As our numerous contacts with locals proved - How to shout into the forest - it shouts back. Nordic charm, which is to be discovered on this journey. Those who shy away from wind and weather shouldn't do it, because they would no longer see the beauty behind it.

Interesting bike ride

On our Bicycletor from Hamburg to Sylt we got to know many beautiful places.

Against the wind

We agree with the opinion of the writer, who is traveling alone, that the bike handover had to take place in a hurry because of the parking ban and that the battery power of the e-bikes also caused problems for us due to the headwind. Otherwise we really enjoyed this trip - even if we always had headwinds. The varied nature, the many dike sheep and Sylt waren impressive despite the bad weather! We will do this tour again.

Cycle tour North Sea - Sylt

The bike ride was beautiful. Everything worked out, the accommodations waren mostly good, including the extra bed. The trip to Sylt would have been easier without a bike as we didn't have room for the bikes on the train to Westerland. My suggestion: Rent a bike on Sylt.

North Sea Coast Cycle Route Hamburg-Sylt - a wonderful route

The trip was great fun, even though I cycled alone due to the lack of other participants. Luggage transport and accommodations very good - except for the first Hotel Intercity in HH, which was very noisy due to its central location. I found the possibility of storing the bike in a dark underground car park uncomfortable, a very long way there. The guide on my trip gets bad grades. The briefing was limited to a few minutes, I couldn't even try out the e-bike myself, he adjusted the saddle to what I assumed was the correct height. He justified his rush with no-parking, which worried him. Then the hotel handed me a thick envelope with the travel documents for self-study, no tour instructions. Since I am an experienced cyclist, I was able to find my way around easily. But I would have liked to get one or the other tip. Later, in Husum, I saw how the tour guide, Mr. Rusch, introduced a new couple to their tour and was very impressed by how personal and caring it was. I would have wished for that too. Good was the luggage transport and the choice of other hotels. Proposal for a correction of the route description in Brunsbüttel. The existing description is not correct, but: after the ferry, Kautzstr. drive up approx. 500m, then Posadowskystr.,=4th street. Turn left, drive through to the corner of Koogstrasse, the Schleusenhotel is on the left, entrance on Koogstrasse. (Schleusenstrasse is not a pedestrian zone, Koogstrasse in the direction of Schleuse Einbahnstrasse.) The km given did not match my speedometer. It waren daily between 60 and 65 km. It was ok, but I had to use the e-bike battery very sparingly, the battery range is almost 60 km in strong headwinds, for example, on the lightest support level. Otherwise the bike was fine. Great tour, highly recommended.

Cycling from Hamburg to Sylt

Despite some corona restrictions, the bike tour was well organized. Although the bike was not handed over personally at the hotel in Hamburg, everything was perfectly organized and all the documents were available. I was lucky with the weather, only a short downpour once, otherwise mostly sunny and often too warm. At noon on the third day, I was annoyed that I had taken an e-bike, since these bikes are much heavier. Until then I cycled without engine power. But in the afternoon I was happy about it, because the headwind was very strong on the dike and this was the case again and again in the next few days. Of the approx. 450 kilometers I cycled, I rode 125 kilometers with motor support because of the sometimes strong headwind. My recommendation, therefore, if you are not used to riding with a headwind, it is better to take an e-bike. The landscape is very beautiful and, although it is not immediately noticeable at first glance, very varied. I was also lucky that relatively few people (except in Sylt) were out and about waren. I often didn't see a soul for an hour or two. It would be good if the bike signs were checked for correctness from time to time. One was turned over, arrow pointing the wrong way, one sign was overgrown with tall grass. It would also be nice if the notices were not only attached to the Innerdeich but also, at least at certain intervals, to the Outerdeich. So you have to drive up again and again so that you know roughly where you are, because if you drive on the outside (water side), you won't see any towns, signs or junctions. Baggage service worked very well. All in all a recommendable bike tour.

As always, a perfectly organized trip! It was nice not having to worry about luggage transport and the hotels. However, a better description of the different variants would be desirable.
