The capital's cycle paths take you around the expansive bay to Køge.
Køge Bugt is densely populated and there are many restaurants and cafés near the coast where you can linger.

Overnight place: Køge

Overland, your tour heads north to the old cathedral town of Roskilde. Roskilde Cathedral is the burial place of the Danish rulers. The Diocese of Roskilde also played for Rügen an important role. So it was Bishop Absalon under King Valdemar Rügen brought Christianity in the 12th century. In the port of Roskilde, the Viking Museum documents a lot of interesting facts about Viking longboats and their heyday. Replicas of the originals can also be admired there.

Overnight place: Roskilde

Today is all about Danish castles and palaces. You cycle through the royal zoo to Hillerød. There you will find Frederiksborg Castle. It houses the Danish National History Museum. Not far to the north is Fredensborg Palace, known as the Danish Versailles. Fredensborg still serves as a summer residence for the royal family. It's a short way to Helsingør where Kronsburg awaits you. Kronsburg plays a major role in Shakespear's Hamlet, which took up the story of Prince Hamlet from Danish history.

North Zealand in August 2022

We really enjoyed the tour. You see a lot of interesting things and get to know the life of the Danes. The daily stages are easy to do, so that you can still explore the places by bike in the evening. The route is varied and was easy to find with the GPX data and Komoot app. The hotels waren Consistently good and everyone had a very good breakfast with nice service. Despite being a cycling nation, most hotels don't have bike shelters. You have to ask and then you can store the bike in the cleaning room. Unfortunately, there was a road map for the whole of Denmark in the documents. We would have expected a cycling tour map from the region so that you have an overview of the daily stages and can plan any changes better. Arriving on Saturday is not optimal, since the motorways are overcrowded in Denmark. Since we cycled individually, we see no point in it.
