This varied circular tour takes you through one of Germany's most charming coastal regions. Between the Baltic Sea, the Schlei fjord, and the Kiel Fjord, you'll experience the maritime flair of the port cities, the gently rolling hills of Angeln, and the cultural history of Viking territory. Charming towns like Kappeln, Eckernförde, and Schleswig invite you to linger – with fish sandwiches, half-timbered houses, and plenty of fresh sea air. An ideal trip for those who enjoy nature, water, and North German charm, exploring by bicycle.
The first leg of your journey takes you along the Flensburg Fjord and through the rolling hills of Angeln. Idyllic villages and expansive fields await you along the way, until you finally reach the town of Kappeln on the Schlei – known for its herring weirs and as the filming location for the television series "Der Landarzt" (The Country Doctor).
They continue south along the Schlei fjord, passing through Arnis – Germany's smallest town – and the picturesque landscape of the Schwansen peninsula, finally reaching the Baltic Sea town of Eckernförde. The fine sandy beach and the beautiful old town offer the perfect place to relax.
Today you leave the Baltic coast and cycle inland. The route takes you through forests and fields to the western end of the Schlei fjord. In Schleswig, the imposing St. Peter's Cathedral, the Viking Museum Haithabu, and Gottorf Castle await you.
The final leg leads through the fertile hills of Schleswig-Holstein back to Flensburg. Enjoy the expansive views across fields and meadows one last time before reaching your destination in the afternoon.
