Arrive in Bamberg on your own. Take the opportunity for a relaxing stroll through the city—perhaps with a visit to the cathedral, a stroll along the Regnitz River, or your first Franconian beer in one of the traditional inns. Welcome to Bamberg!
Your first cycling stage begins in the UNESCO Heritage city of Bamberg—a true Franconian gem with medieval charm, narrow streets, and the famous Old Town. Your cycling tour takes you through the meadows of the Regnitz Valley, visits Forchheim, a small and cozy Franconian town, and finally reaches Erlangen.
Today's tour takes you through flat landscapes and sandy pine forests, along river meadows shaded by large oak trees entwined with wild hops. Passing Fürth—a detour into the city is worthwhile—the Regnitz Cycle Path leads you past the "Kettensteg" and "Henkersteg" bridges to the destination of today's stage: Nuremberg. A fascinating mix of medieval flair, imposing buildings, and modern urban culture awaits you.
The historical MainThe Danube Canal, built by King Ludwig I and also known as the Ludwig Canal, is your constant companion today. It is one of the oldest canals in the world, offering stunning panoramas and boasting 101 locks. At the end, you'll enter the Rothsee National Park and reach Hilpoltstein, at the gateway to the Franconian Lake District. You'll cycle a short distance further along the canal to your mooring near Roth.
This stage takes you through one of Bavaria's most charming landscapes – the Altmühl Valley. Starting in Hilpoltstein, you will follow the well-signposted Altmühl Valley Cycle Path and follow the gently rolling MainDanube Canal. Enjoy a relaxing ride through nature and history, passing lush green meadows, rugged cliffs, and historic locks. In Beilngries, a charming old town with a medieval flair awaits you – the perfect end to a delightful day of cycling.
The heart of the Altmühl Valley awaits you – a true natural paradise! Numerous information panels along the trail provide insight into the region's history and the unique geological features of the Altmühl Valley. Along the way, there are several opportunities to refresh yourself with a coffee or simply enjoy the tranquility of nature. The destination of your tour is the charming town of Riedenburg, also known as the "Pearl of the Altmühl Valley." Surrounded by castle ruins and wooded hills, it invites you to linger – a true insider tip for nature and culture lovers.
Today, the tour continues through idyllic landscapes and past small villages. A highlight awaits you in Kelheim, where the Altmühl and Danube rivers converge. High above the town towers the imposing Befreiungshalle, an impressive building built by King Ludwig I, which rewards you with a spectacular view after a short climb. The tour continues along the Danube to magnificent Regensburg – one of Germany's oldest cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The MS Casanova welcomes you to a magnificent ambiance reminiscent of the Rococo style. Playful details and reproductions of paintings by renowned artists create a sophisticated atmosphere. The castle-like panoramic lounge, with its whimsical design, invites you to linger and relax with a glass of wine or a cocktail. We will cater to your culinary needs in the elegant restaurant. The spacious, partially covered sun deck (steep access), furnished with deck chairs and seating, beckons sunbathers to enjoy the passing scenery. Please note that the steps to the sun deck are very steep.
Minimum number of participants: 70 people, required 21 days prior to arrival.
The tour can also be booked in reverse order (tour code BAY 21)
Bringing your own bicycle: Due to limited space on the sun deck, bringing your own bicycle is only possible upon request and subject to availability. We exclude all liability for loss, theft, or damage – this also applies to damage incurred during transport from the ship to shore and back.
Excursion program: bookable exclusively on board. A brief description will be provided with your travel documents. Depending on the group composition, excursions may be offered bilingually in German and English.
Schedule and program changes are generally reserved. If, for example, a section of the route cannot be navigated due to low or high water levels or bad weather, the captain reserves the right to change the route for your safety (this is not grounds for a free cancellation). The same applies to officially ordered lock and/or bridge repairs that are not announced in advance.
Other information: Please bear in mind that your riverboat is both your "holiday hotel" and a working vessel that moves using engine power and requires constant operation, including at night (sometimes involving lock and bridge passages). We recommend that particularly noise-sensitive guests bring earplugs. Lock passages are disruptive and unfortunately cannot be avoided.
Berth information: The berths along the mainly commercially operated MainDanube canals are often located outside of major cities or connected to industrial ports.
Available on board (limited quantity): Bicycle helmet (UVEX I-VO) €45 each, mobile phone holder €10 each, power bank (10.000 mAh) €20 each
Route profile: You cycle on towpaths along the canals or on quiet side roads, field and forest tracks. Some longer climbs must be tackled; a basic level of fitness is required.
Onboard languages: German, English
