Bike & Boat: Frankfurt to Bamberg with the MS Casanova

Franconia is a region of excellent wines, some say, while others praise its Franconian beers. On this journey through Franconia's wine and beer region, you'll have many opportunities to sample fine wines, a tasty beer or two, and numerous culinary delights. But Franconia is, of course, not just the ideal region for a culinary journey. You can also look forward to traditional towns, magnificent old towns, and a little Venice. Your eyes deserve to be pampered, too.

Individual arrival and embarkation at 16:00 p.m. in Frankfurt/MainYour tour guide and crew will welcome you on board, and at 17:00 PM it's time to cast off! Enjoy your first dinner cruise on the way to Aschaffenburg. Situated at the foot of the Spessart mountains, this tranquil university town is located on the Main (approx. 70.000 inhabitants) has numerous magnificent buildings to offer. Johannisburg Castle, made of red sandstone, is one of the most important and beautiful Renaissance buildings in Germany. Ludwig I called the city of Aschaffenburg the "Bavarian Nice" because of its pleasant climate. Numerous wine bars, cafes and rustic inns can be found here.

Until shortly before Bürgstadt/Miltenberg you can either take the right or left Mainside. The floodplain forest between Nilkheim and Niedernheim is pleasant to cycle through in summer. The “Planet Cycle Route” accompanies you from Kleinwallstadt to Erlenbach. Here you can find information about the celestial bodies. Everywhere along the MainThere are benches and rest areas that invite you to relax or even go for a swim. Your ship is now in Freudenberg, about 10 km from Miltenberg. High above the Main and the town of Freudenberg, the Freudenburg castle stands at the foothills of the Franconian Odenwald.

While you enjoy a leisurely breakfast, your ship will take you to Wertheim. In Wertheim, which has retained the character of an old Franconian town, you will start your cycling tour through the typical Mainlandscape. There is a lot to see on the route to Lohr with its lovely old town with historical buildings and Franconian half-timbering.

Early in the morning, you'll travel by boat past Gemünden to Karlstadt, where you'll hop on your bike. The romantic old town and the idyllic village atmosphere – Karlstadt offers both. Discover buildings over 800 years old in the old town, surrounded by walls, towers, and gates. Cycle leisurely to Würzburg, where you'll rejoin your boat in the afternoon. Visit the Würzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981, or enjoy the beautiful view from Marienburg Fortress.

Your bike tour takes you along the MainCycle path from Würzburg through the fertile Ochsenfurt district to Ochsenfurt with its remarkable lance tower and via the historic town of Marktbreit with its magnificent town houses to Kitzingen. Alternatively, your ship docks in Marktbreit (this shortens the cycle tour by approximately 10 km).

Today you have several bike tours to choose from: Cycle the long route along the MainFor the cycle path from Marktbreit to Schweinfurt (approx. 69 km), choose an alternative route which you will occasionally find from MainThe cycle path is a bit further away, but suitable and paved paths and roads will still take you to Schweinfurt (approx. 62 km). Alternatively, you can opt for a shorter cycle tour and first enjoy the boat trip to Volkach in the morning. There you can finally get on your bike and cycle to Schweinfurt (approx. 30 km). Tip: Visit the pilgrimage church of St. Maria im Weingarten near Volkach. Continue to Fahr, where a welcome sign in the shape of a Bocksbeutel (a traditional Franconian wine bottle) greets you, via the... Mainloop – here the valley becomes narrower and the vineyards more numerous – to Schweinfurt.

In the morning you will travel by boat to Haßfurt. Afterwards you will cycle via Zeil am Main, located exactly at the junction between wine and beer Franconia, to Bamberg. The city was built on seven hills like Rome and is therefore often called the "Franconian Rome". Experience the fascination of a world cultural heritage site. Also worth seeing is the fishing district "Little Venice", a row of houses from the 17th century. A cold beer is also a must in Bamberg. There are still eleven independent breweries in the city!

The castle-like panoramic lounge, with its whimsical design, invites you to linger and relax with a glass of wine or a cocktail. We will cater to your culinary needs in the elegant restaurant. The spacious, partially covered sun deck (steep access), furnished with deck chairs and seating, beckons sunbathers to enjoy the passing scenery. Please note that the steps to the sun deck are very steep.

Bringing your own bicycle: Due to limited space on the sun deck, bringing your own bicycle is only possible upon request and subject to availability. We exclude all liability for loss, theft, or damage – this also applies to damage incurred during transport from the ship to shore and back.

Excursion program: bookable exclusively directly on board. A brief description will be provided with your travel documents. Depending on the group composition, excursions may be offered bilingually in German and English.

Schedule and program changes are always possible. If, for example, a section of the route cannot be navigated due to low or high water levels or bad weather, the captain reserves the right to change the route for your safety (this is not grounds for a free cancellation). The same applies to lock and/or bridge repairs ordered by authorities and not announced in advance.

Other information: Please bear in mind that your riverboat is both your "holiday hotel" and a working vessel that moves using engine power and requires constant operation, including at night (sometimes involving lock and bridge passages). We recommend that particularly noise-sensitive guests bring earplugs. Lock passages are disruptive and unfortunately cannot be avoided.
