Oban is the starting and ending point of your journey to the Inner Hebrides and the Highlands. You'll visit the Isle of Mull on board the Flying Dutchman, one of Scotland's most scenically spectacular areas and still largely untouched by tourism. The Isle of Jura, also visited, is known for its abundant red deer population, and its eponymous distillery produces a world-famous whisky.

Enjoy Scotland's wild nature with its vibrant colors and rich biodiversity. Treat yourself to a glass of whisky in a pub in the evening and listen to the sounds of Scottish music, which you'll encounter everywhere. On your crossings on the Flying Dutchman, keep an eye out for dolphins and seals and watch the impressive landscapes pass by. On your bike tours, you'll observe eagles, red deer, and otters, and gaze down at the sea from the most beautiful vantage points.

fuel surcharge

A fuel surcharge of up to 8% of the package price may be levied on this bike and boat tour. The final amount will be determined and communicated 20–30 days before departure. Payment: This arrangement is made directly upon boarding the ship. It is governed by §651f of the German Civil Code (BGB) and serves to adjust for current fuel costs of our service partners.

Arrival is by individual flight to Edinburgh or Glasgow and from there by bus or train to Oban. Alternatively, you can book a transfer (15:30 PM Edinburgh City Centre / 16:00 PM Edinburgh Airport). The cabins on the Flying Dutchman will be ready for you from 18: PM. If you arrive earlier, we will store your luggage on board until check-in. Over dinner, you will meet the crew and tour guides.

After breakfast, you'll adjust your bikes and then embark on the first bike ride of the trip. This will take you south out of Oban through hilly countryside and along a small Highland lake, back to the sea. Across a lonely peninsula, you'll eventually reach a ferry that will take you to Luing Island. This is one of the so-called Slate Islands, where the mining of the shimmering gray rock was once an important economic factor. For example, the University of Edinburgh is largely built from the slate from this small island. The Flying Dutchman is already waiting at the Toberonochy pier for the crossing to Crinan.

Today's circular tour takes you from Crinan to the exciting archaeological site KilmArtin. Stone circles reminiscent of Stonehenge and prehistoric burial mounds characterize the extensive grounds. After a visit to the complex and a lunch break in the beautiful museum café, you return to Crinan. Passing the Kintyre Peninsula, famous from the Paul McCartney song "Mull of Kintyre," you continue by boat to the Isle of Jura.

After breakfast, you'll cycle north on the Isle of Jura. George Orwell, who spent the last three years of his life here, once described it as the most inaccessible place on earth. Enjoy the island's tranquility, only occasionally disturbed by one of the approximately 5000 deer that live here. Passing the Paps of Jura, you'll reach a small jetty where the Flying Dutchman will take you on a crossing to the Isle of Mull. Along the way, you'll pass the Corryvreckan Whirlpool, one of the largest natural whirlpools in the world—but don't worry, your experienced crew will bring you safely to a quiet bay on the Isle of Mull.

Today's bike tour is all about Scotland's impressive natural landscape. The route takes you through hilly terrain and along the coast. Around every bend, a new, breathtaking view awaits. You'll share your path almost exclusively with sheep and shaggy Highland cattle grazing leisurely in the bright green meadows. You'll cycle along a diverse coastal road past Loch Na'Keal to Salen. You'll spend the night at the quiet Salen Pier and, with a little luck, experience a beautiful sunset.

Today, you'll face some elevation gain as you explore the northern part of the Isle of Mull by bike. A cozy tearoom will reward you with a welcome respite before the brilliant white beach of Calgary Bay, with its crystal-clear waters, beckons. The return journey takes you through hilly terrain with a few steep climbs to the island's main town, Tobermory. In this pretty little town with its colorful house facades, you can visit an authentic Scottish pub. Why not try the national dish, fish 'n' chips, or the famous haggis?

Today's bike tour takes you out of Tobermory once again to Glengorm Castle, which enjoys a prominent location in the north of the Isle of Mull. The 19th-century manor house offers an impressive sight, and you can fortify yourself for the return journey to Tobermory in the cozy tearoom. Afterwards, it's time to cast off one last time, and the Flying Dutchman will take you back through the Sound of Mull to Oban. Before dinner, you'll have time to explore Oban a bit. McCaig's Tower, a never-completed replica of the Colosseum in Rome, is a worthwhile sightseeing destination.

After breakfast, individual journey home or shared transfer to Edinburgh Airport.

General tip for traveling by car

You can easily find a large overview of parking spaces on the external website www.parkopedia.de . view

The Flying Dutchman was originally built as a herring lugger and later converted into an impressive passenger sailing ship. The guest cabins and deck area are simply yet comfortably designed. The cozy saloon is the heart and soul of the Flying Dutchman. The outdoor area of the Flying Dutchman offers plenty of space, which is also needed when setting sail. In good weather, the crew is happy to serve meals at the three tables on the main deck, and those who dare to feel the sea breeze can even take a trip into the jib net. Thanks to the impressive sail area of 480 m², sailing from island to island on the Flying Dutchman is a very special experience. The dedicated, friendly crew is always happy to help their guests when setting the many sails. You are also welcome to stand at the helm and steer this proud ship yourself. An unforgettable experience! Please be aware that the focus of this trip is also on cycling. The ship is therefore primarily a means of transport for getting from one stop to the next. If the wind direction and tidal current are right, there is nothing better for the Flying Dutchman and her crew than to offer their guests the very special experience of sailing without motor assistance.

Cabins with adjustable air conditioning and central ventilation. Tiled bathroom with mirror and shower/WC, sink, and bunk beds.

changes: Due to varying wind and weather conditions as well as organizational requirements, we reserve the right to make changes to the route.

Helmet compulsory: Helmets are mandatory on the bike tours. Please bring your own, well-fitting helmet. Rental helmets are available in limited numbers (reservation required).

Cycling tours through hilly terrain with longer climbs up to a maximum of 210 meters in elevation. All tours, including the elevation gain, can be easily managed with electronic assistance. Mostly on paved, quiet roads, occasionally on unpaved gravel or forest paths. Suitable for cyclists who ride regularly and can confidently handle changing trail conditions.

  • Distance: 19 - 50 km per day
  • Altitude: 100 - 400 m elevation gain per day

The following applies to all levels: Safe handling of a bicycle and familiarity with road traffic are prerequisites for participation in our tours. All tours, including the elevation gain, can be easily managed with electronic assistance. Those renting an e-bike should already have experience and be confident in handling e-bikes, as these bikes are significantly heavier and faster than conventional bicycles.

Individual cycling: This tour is primarily designed as a guided group tour. After prior consultation with our tour guides and selecting a suitable route, there's nothing stopping you from cycling independently. Instead of a bike tour, you can also spend a half or full day on the ship.

Language: Due to our international audience, our tours are often conducted bilingually, in German and English.

Group pace - On our e-bike tour programs, the pace is determined by the cyclists on the e-bikes.
