Guided bike & boat trip: Copenhagen to Malmö Antigua

The barquentine Antigua has been sailing European waters for over half a century. Built in Great Britain in 1957 as a fishing vessel, the Antigua was converted to its current form as a classic three-masted barque in 1993. During the restoration, she was re-rigged as a barquentine. The result is an elegant ship with a commanding presence and excellent sailing characteristics. A new deckhouse was added in 2021, providing a warm and dry space to enjoy the views.

Description of the cabins
The Antigua has 15 comfortable guest cabins, each with its own bathroom including shower and toilet. All cabins are located below deck; 8 cabins have two separate single beds and 7 cabins have a bunk bed. All cabins are equipped with central heating, shelves, and a porthole that is locked for safety reasons. The cabins are practical, offer ample space for your luggage, and exude a nautical atmosphere.

Description of the ship
On the middle deck you will find the dining and lounge area, comfortably furnished with U-shaped sofas. Here you will also find the well-stocked bar. Outside there is a large, furnished deck, and if the weather is less than ideal, you can take a seat in the new deck saloon on the upper deck, which offers comfortable seating and expansive views.

Guests aboard the Antigua can expect an experienced and enthusiastic crew and excellent cuisine. And, of course, a unique nautical experience on an authentic three-masted ship. With a passionate sailing crew, state-of-the-art navigation technology, and all the necessary safety precautions for worldwide voyages, a sailing trip on this sturdy three-masted vessel is a fantastic adventure.

• If you prefer not to cycle one day, you are welcome to stay on board and relax while the ship sails to the next dock.

Important information about the Sail & Bike trip program: A Sail & Bike tour always involves a bit of adventure, as we unfortunately can't control the weather! Only the departure and arrival points are 100% fixed on this trip. The captain determines the best route each day and discusses the options with the guests. The crew strives to keep the program as planned as possible. However, departure and arrival times may change. Sometimes the order of the program also needs to be adjusted. You may end up spending more or less time on the water than originally planned.

Our recommendation: Let the elements guide you and, above all, don't forget to enjoy your holiday! It will certainly be an exciting, varied, and active week filled with nature and culture. Weather permitting, we will sail the entire route. If you wish, you can then assist the crew with sailing and steering the vessel. Sailing experience is not required, as long as you listen carefully to the crew's instructions.

Bringing your own bicycles/e-bikes is not possible , as there is not enough space on deck.

The ship – your floating hotel

Between bike rides, you'll travel on a large sailing ship that sails to a new destination each day. You'll dine, sleep, and have breakfast on board. You can prepare your own packed lunch each day, and one or two scenic, pre-planned cycling routes will be offered. Touring bikes and e-bikes are available for rent on board. If you'd like to take a day off from cycling, you can stay on board and sail with the ship. If you wish, you can also help with navigation and hoisting the sails – under the guidance of the experienced crew, of course: no sailing experience is necessary. Or you can simply relax and enjoy the views from the ship.

What makes the tours with the special four days in Antigua The unique aspect is that at certain points, the crew will take you ashore or pick you up again using a dinghy (a motorized open tender) – depending on whether the ship's draft is too deep to dock in the harbor, in which case it anchors offshore. The crew ensures your safety, of course, but it's also a bit exciting. On this trip, this happens near the island of Ven and at Rødvig.
 

Guided cycling

Accompanied by two experienced tour guides, you and the group will visit interesting places and sights on daily bike tours. During briefings and along the way, you'll learn everything you need to know about the route and the points of interest. With the free Ride With GPS navigation app and our detailed cycling map (available on board), you can also cycle the tours independently and at your own pace. The bike tours on this trip are not long in themselves, but they do include some elevation changes: some short sections can be more challenging, and some short stretches are on partially paved gravel roads. Therefore, we have rated this tour as a level 3 difficulty. Of course, the tour is somewhat less strenuous with an e-bike.
 

What is so special about a sailing and cycling trip at sea?

Weather conditions play a crucial role in all sailing trips. However, the safety and comfort of passengers and crew always take precedence. Wind direction and strength, as well as waves and sea state, determine how fast and on which course the ship can sail to the next destination. For this reason, it is never possible to predict exactly how long a particular sailing leg will take. Therefore, on a sailing and cycling tour at sea, the individual stages may be sailed in a different order depending on the weather forecast. The captain may also decide to change or skip a destination and replace it with another. So, rest assured that you are in the hands of a competent and experienced crew during such a trip, but also expect a touch of adventure.
