This eight-day trip takes you through stunning landscapes in Holland and Flanders, and you'll get to know the world-famous cities of Amsterdam, Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges. By bike and boat, you'll traverse the beautiful, flat landscape of the Netherlands, the water-rich province of Zeeland, and the Scheldt River delta in West Flanders.

Along the way, you'll pass through many charming villages, visit various interesting sights, and indulge in a truly relaxing stay aboard your "floating hotel." Highlights include the Dutch capital Amsterdam, a visit to a traditional cheese factory, the 19 windmills of Kinderdijk, and the world-famous cities of Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges in the Belgian province of West Flanders.

You'll also explore the Dutch province of Zeeland, located between the North Sea and the river delta of the Rhine, Meuse, and Scheldt. This region is known for its beautiful beaches, great water sports, and the imposing Delta Works, built to protect against flooding. Afterwards, Belgian Flanders awaits you with its medieval cities, beautiful river landscapes, and world-renowned gastronomy.

fuel surcharge

A fuel surcharge of up to 8% of the package tour price may be levied on this bike and boat tour. The final amount will be determined and communicated 20–30 days before departure. Payment is due directly upon boarding the ship. This policy is in accordance with §651f of the German Civil Code (BGB) and serves to adjust for current fuel costs from our service partners.

Individual arrival in Bruges. Your ship awaits you in the port of Bruges. Embarkation and check-in take place in the early afternoon. The crew will welcome you on board at 14:00 PM. Afterward, it's time to distribute the bikes and take them for a short test ride. After dinner, the tour guide will organize a short city tour through the beautiful old town of Bruges. If you would like to explore Bruges (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) in more detail, we recommend traveling to Belgium one or two days before the start of your trip. Then you can take your time to visit one of the many museums or simply let yourself be captivated by the unique beauty of this city over a coffee or a Belgian beer in one of the pleasant cafés.

Today's tour begins with a short boat ride. After breakfast, you'll hop on your bike just outside Bruges and cycle through the beautiful Flemish countryside along the Ghent-Bruges Canal to Ghent. In the afternoon, you can explore this fascinating city on a leisurely stroll. The city center, with its magically illuminated streets, is beautiful, and the abundance of historic architecture is a true feast for the eyes. In the Middle Ages, Ghent was at one point the second-largest European city. Your boat will dock for the night at the lock in Merelbeke, a suburb of Ghent, about a 30-minute bike ride from the city center.

After breakfast in Ghent, you'll cycle downstream through a diverse landscape along the tidal Scheldt River to Dendermonde, where the Dender and Scheldt rivers converge. The landscape around the Scheldt can be described in one word: stunning! This section is undoubtedly one of the natural highlights of the trip. In this section of the Scheldt, the ship's speed depends on the tides. Your ship will dock overnight in Dendermonde.

Today you follow the course of the Scheldt further downstream via the towns of Temse and Baasrode, all the way to Antwerp. This section of the Scheldt River has been a strategically important location for the Romans, Vikings, Spaniards, and even Napoleon over the centuries. Today, this beautiful waterway is the perfect backdrop for a successful bike and boat trip! Your destination today is the port city of Antwerp, which made a name for itself as a diamond trading center as early as the 15th century and is now considered the world capital of the diamond trade. The unofficial Belgian capital of culture is also the birthplace of the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens. In this fascinating city, you can discover countless sights, including the Town Hall, one of the many magnificent Renaissance buildings, the historic large market square "Grote Markt," the Cathedral of Our Lady, and the medieval Steen Castle. Tonight's dinner is not included in the price. Take the opportunity to sample Belgium's famous cuisine in one of the great restaurants. The crew will be happy to provide you with restaurant recommendations.

This morning, the ship sails across the Scheldt-Rhine Canal to the gigantic Kreekrak Locks. Here, your cycling tour through the Wouwse Plantage forest begins. Your destination is Tholen, formerly a small fishing village on an island. Since the completion of the Delta Project, however, the town has been connected to the mainland. Here, you reboard and sail through the impressive Kreekrak Locks to Dordrecht, where a short tour is offered in the evening.

Take the "Waterbus" (own arrangement) to Alblasserdam. After a few minutes, you'll reach Kinderdijk by bike. This town is known worldwide for its 19 windmills (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) standing side by side. You can visit one of these windmills, so don't forget your camera! The windmills were built in the 18th century to pump water and drain the Alblasserwaard polder. You'll continue your bike tour via Schoonhoven (a stopover) to Vianen, a small fortified town on the Lek River. This is where the ship docks for the night, and after dinner, you'll have time to explore the town on a stroll.

During breakfast, your ship sails to Breukelen, where you disembark for your final cycling tour. Cycle along the stunningly beautiful Vecht River. Its banks are lined with manor houses, small castles, and magnificent country houses with gardens stretching right down to the riverbanks. After cycling through the towns of Nieuwersluis, Loenen, and Vreeland, you reach Nigtevecht. There, you can visit a traditional cheese factory. You continue via the fortress town of Muiden to Amsterdam, where you rejoin the ship and spend your final night in the port of Amsterdam.

Disembarkation after breakfast until 09:30 am and individual journey home.

The ship
De Holland is a mid-sized, family-style river cruise ship, built in 1952 and extended by 2012 meters in 16. In the winter of 2017/2018, the ship underwent an extensive renovation and received a complete makeover: a new layout, larger and more luxurious cabins, and a new interior design. Sailing under the Dutch flag and management, the ship is very popular and excellent for various trips in the Netherlands. For several seasons, the ship has sailed between the Netherlands and Belgium, among other destinations.

Facts of the ship

  • Length: 78,3 m
  • Width: 7,3 m
  • Crew: 11
  • Cabins: 32
  • Passengers: 66 (max)

The cabins
On the lower deck, there are 22 twin cabins (10 m²). Two twin cabins at the front of the ship have two single beds arranged side by side as a double bed (200 x 160 cm), plus a fold-down bed as an optional third bed (for children only). Twenty twin cabins have two single beds arranged side by side as a double bed (20 x 200 cm). All cabins have a window (160 x 80 cm), which, however, cannot be opened for safety reasons.
On the upper deck there are nine identical twin cabins (10 m²) and one suite (13 m²); These cabins have two single beds placed next to each other as a double bed (200 x 160 cm). All cabins on the upper deck have a French balcony (floor-to-ceiling, glazed sliding door) instead of a window.

Upon prior request, in most cabins the beds that are normally set up as hotel beds can be set up as two single beds.

All 32 cabins on board the De Holland feature individually controlled air conditioning, a ventilation system, a small wardrobe, digital TV, a mini-safe, a hairdryer, 230-volt outlets, and a bathroom with a sink, shower, and toilet. The suite has the same amenities as the twin cabins but is significantly larger.

On some days, you can choose between a longer and a shorter bike tour. Please note that the shorter bike tour may not include all of the highlights mentioned.

If you prefer not to cycle one day, you are welcome to stay on board and relax while the ship sails to the next dock.

On the day of arrival you can leave your luggage on board the ship from 11:00 a.m.

The distances for the recommended cycling tours are approximate. The itinerary and itinerary are subject to possible changes due to nautical, technical, or meteorological reasons, or other unforeseen events.

Please remember that the ship is both your hotel and a machine that needs to be maintained and operated—both day and night. Operational noise is therefore unavoidable.
