This tour takes you through one of the most popular cycling regions in the NetherlandsExplore this area yourself by bike and boat. During the bike tours you will learn more every day about the many historic cities, beautiful river landscapes and diverse natural areasEvery evening you return to your floating Hotel ship De Holland/De Nassau which is located in one of the picturesque harbors along the route. The De Holland offers space for up to 71 guests. You cycle at your own pace and your experienced tour guide is available by phone at any time for your questions, problems or emergencies.

Follow an important trade route by bike. The area you are passing through has been shaped by numerous rivers and streams over thousands of years. It experienced its heyday in the Middle Ages, when the rivers Rhine and IJssel were among the most important trade routes in Europe. Many of the cities on the banks belonged to the Hanseatic LeagueThis alliance protected the economic interests of its members in large parts of the Netherlands, Germany and Northern Europe. The prosperity of these years is still evident today in the opulent secular and religious architecture. Discover the Hanseatic Route by bike and boat now!

Sicht über Gracht von Brücke

Embarkation and check-in in Amsterdam. The crew welcomes you on board between 13:00 and 14:00. At approximately 14:00 the ship departs Amsterdam via the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal to Wijk bij Duurstede, a city on the Rhine. Here you will spend your first night.

During breakfast the ship sails to WageningenFrom here, the first tour of the week takes you through the lovely valley of the Lower Rhine and further through the Veluwe, a large forest and heathland area. In the late afternoon you cycle through the suburbs and past the beautiful parks Sonsbeek and Zijpendaal over, after ArnhemThe De Nassau is moored for the night near the city centre of this former Hanseatic city. During the Second World War Arnhem the scene of the Operation Market Garden, the largest airborne operation in history. It ended in failure as it was not possible to capture a bridge over the Rhine, leading to the destruction of the British 1st Parachute Division.

You'll then continue your bike tour along the river until you reach the small Hanseatic town of Doesburg. After dinner, a stroll through this Hanseatic town is definitely worth it.

From Doesburg, there are two options for cycling to Zutphen and Deventer. Both options first lead to Bronkhorst, which is proud to be the smallest city in the Netherlands From Bronkhorst, the shorter route takes you by ferry to the west bank of the IJssel, while the longer route stays on the east bank. Both routes take you through the countryside to Zutphen. Both routes end in Deventer, known for its delicious gingerbread. In the evening, your tour guide offers a short, guided city tour that you won't want to miss!

During breakfast, the De Nassau takes you to We he, where a nice bike ride to Hattem begins. The shorter route leads along the river bank along the longer bike tour runs through the eastern Veluwe areaHattem has a rich history, traces of which can still be seen everywhere today. From Hattem it is only a short distance to Zwolle. This city is considered one of the most beautiful Hanseatic cities in the country. From Zwolle we continue to KampenIn the evening you can discover the highlights of this largest Hanseatic city in the Netherlands on your own.

From Kampen the cycle tour leads along the marginal lakes fishing port of ElburgThere are many popular water sports activities here during the summer. From Elburg the cycle tour continues through the forests and moors of the Veluwe to beautiful Harderwijk, where you will stay in the old fishing port. In the 16th century, Harderwijk had the largest fish market in the Zuiderzee region. Today it is still a beautiful old town that is worth exploring.

Once again you have two routes to choose from: A shorter bike ride along the shores of the marginal lakes or a combination of the coastal route and a longer alternative that runs through adjacent forests. In the afternoon you arrive Spakenburg , a fishing village known for its traditional costumes, which are still worn today. The current berth is in Huizen.

Huizen is the starting point for a tour to the beautiful fortified towns of Naarden and MuidenThe latter is famous for its historic castle on the water. From Muiden you drive along quiet roads to your destination, the world-famous metropolis of AmsterdamYou have the whole afternoon and evening to explore this vibrant city. Take the opportunity to canal tour or Anne Frank House or one of the other world-famous museums around the Museumplein to visit. Or simply enjoy the lively life in this multicultural city.
