After getting to know Amsterdam, today you will cycle to the “Green Heart”. Your destination today is Gouda, famous for the cheese of the same name. A cozy, old-fashioned Dutch town with a particularly authentic town center. You can also complete the last stage of this route by train (excl.). The distance is then only 58 km instead of the original 68 km.
Overnight place: Gouda/Bodegraven
You leave the world-famous cheese town and drive to the Kinderdijk windmills. The sight is so typically Dutch! You drive to Papendrecht, 3 km north of Dordrecht, on the other side of the river. Dordrecht is Holland's oldest city. There are many monumental buildings lined up in the harbor district.

Nature lovers will get their money's worth today. The first part of the route leads along one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands: De Biesbosch. This national park is rich in rivers, streams, lakes and islands and is one of the few freshwater tidal areas in the world. The tour continues to Willemstad, a small, old fortress town on the Haringvliet. Note: You can only travel the route through De Biebosch National Park on days when the small ferry 't Leeuweveerke is in operation, unfortunately not every day. There is an alternative route for days when the ferry is out of service.
Overnight place: Willemstad
Today you enter Zeeland, a province characterized by light, wind, water and lots of space. Traverse this region of islands, crossing bridges and ferries as you drift towards Belgium. Fairytale towns with ancient houses and cobblestone streets await you in the coming days as you traverse a patchwork landscape of vast polders, idyllic countryside, rolling dunes and golden sands.
Overnight place: Noordgouwe/Zierikzee
Enjoy a walk through the narrow streets of Zierikzee. Charming little houses take you back in time and remind you of the glory days when ships carrying salt, wool, fish, grain and red dye sailed to the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean. Your route continues to charming Veere, a distributor of Scottish wool in 1541. For 300 years, such trade brought prosperity to the town and a vibrant expatriate community. Walk in their footsteps as you tour the local attractions. As you continue south, you will discover the nostalgic splendor of Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland and one of the most important trading centers in the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Overnight place: Vlissingen/Middelburg
After a hearty breakfast in Vlissingen, cross the Westerschelde by ferry and explore Zeeuws-Vlaanderen with its picturesque coasts, dikes, polders and historic fortresses.
