Tourenkarte Amsterdam Brügge

Arrival Bruges.

Bruges is known as the pearl of Flanders. It is a truly enchanting city that has been attracting tourists for around 150 years. The medieval architecture is mostly intact and exceptionally well preserved, giving you a feel for the bygone times when it was the center of the European wool and cloth trade.

Overnight place: Bruges

After a hearty breakfast, you make your way to the charming town of Damme on the banks of the Damse Vaart. Dams on the banks of the Damse Vaart. Then we continue to the border and to Zeeland, a Dutch province characterized by light, wind, water and lots of space. It's mostly made up of islands, so bridges and bridges and ferries take you across the water as you drift northeast. Picture-perfect towns with old houses and cobblestone streets are on the agenda for the next few days. But first you pass through Zeeland Flanders with its winding country roads, pollarded willows, wet meadows and scattered villages. At the end of the day you take the ferry to the lakeside town of Vlissingen. Further north you will discover the nostalgic splendor of the city of Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland. In the 16th and 17th centuries it was one of the most important trading centers in the Netherlands.

Overnight place: Vlissingen/Middelburg

Discover the charming village of Veere. From 1541 everything exported to Holland from Scotland (mainly wool) was landed in Veere and was distributed from there. This treaty not only brought prosperity to the city, but also a very lively Scottish emigrant community that stayed for 300 years. Follow in their footsteps as you take in the sights. Walking through the narrow streets of Zierikzee is an absolute pleasure. Quaint little old houses take you back to the city's glory days when ships set off for the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean to sell salt, wool, fish, grain and red dye. red dye.

Overnight place: Zierikzee/Noordgouwe

Enjoy your last day in Zeeland and traverse a patchwork landscape of extensive polders, idyllic idyllic landscapes, rolling dunes and golden sandy areas. End the day in Willemstad, a fortified fortress townemstad, which is shaped like a seven-pointed star.

Overnight place: Willemstad

Biesbosch, the result of a major flood in 1421, is one of the few remaining wetlands in Europe. Habitat in Europe where the ecosystem has adapted to both salt water coming from the sea via tidal streams and fresh water from rivers. It is an ever-changing labyrinth of streams and rivers that includes countless small islands with willow forests and reeds, a paradise for birds. If you continue cycling, you will reach one of the oldest cities in Holland: Dordrecht, completely surrounded by water. The area around the marina is a real gem. This oldest part of the city has over a thousand historic buildings and three nostalgic canals.

Please note that you will only cycle through Park de Biesbosch on the days the ferry departs. This ferry does not run every day. If the ferry is not running, follow an alternative route.

Overnight place: Papendrecht/Dordrecht

Set off again and head to the village of Kinderdijk, where nineteen majestic windmills provide a unique spectacle. They served to channel excess water from the low-lying polder into the Lek River. As you cycle towards Gouda, traveling approximately two meters below sea level, enjoy the pastoral landscape and magnificent cloudscapes. For centuries, people came from far away to buy horses, cows, meat, peat, seeds, cheese, etc. at the weekly and annual markets in Gouda. Go shopping at the annual markets in Gouda. We recommend a stroll through the old town to soak up the atmosphere of yesteryear. Atmosphere of bygone times. Walk around St. John's Church and the market square, with a 15th-century town hall and scales.

Overnight place: Gouda/Bodegraven

Immerse yourself in the "Groene Hart" (green heart), a pleasant rural area with low-lying polders, peat meadows and grazing cattle. It is a flat, open, expansive landscape where church towers and windmills touch the horizon and clouds are reflected in lakes and canals. Your cycling holiday ends in Amsterdam, famous for its beautiful 400-year-old canal district. This city is full of things to see and do. As always, street artists and artists attract people to the Dam, Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein. A new attraction is “Het Grachtenhuis” (Museum of the Canals). Waren Have you already visited the renovated Rijksmuseum and the Maritime Museum?

NOTE: Please note that in 2024 it will no longer be possible to share the Amsterdam-Gouda leg. We have shortened the route so that Woerden or Vinkeveen will no longer be bookable!!!
