The "Munich-Venezia" long-distance cycle path combines pure cycling pleasure with the experience of crossing the Alps, starting from Germany via Austria to Italy and the three countries with their tourist regions and many outstanding natural and cultural beauties. "Munich-Venezia" leads from the Isar metropolis of Munich, past the Bavarian lakes and along the rivers via the Tyrolean Inn Valley, through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites to Treviso and finally to the Doge's palaces and canals in the lagoon city of Venice.

character of the route

The cycling tour from Munich to Venice is a very varied tour. The most challenging section across the Alps (Innsbruck–Brenner Pass) can be shortened by train or bus, and the route through the Dolomites from Toblach to Cortina d'Ampezzo can be completed without difficulty, following the cycle path along the former railway line. The last two days are downhill and flat, heading towards the sea.

The cycle tour is suitable for children aged 16 and over.

Die schöne Stadt Venedig

Individual arrival at the starting hotel in Munich.

Accommodation location: Munich

Always along the Isar you leave Munich. It goes past monasteries, through Bavarian villages and through the Isar floodplains to the rafting town of Bad Tölz with its old town, which is well worth seeing.

Overnight location: Bad Tölz

From Bad Tölz you cycle further along the Isar to the Sylvensteinsee. You cross the German-Austrian border through the Karwendel Nature Park and reach the holiday region of Achensee and the mountain lake of the same name. If you want, you can take a boat trip on Lake Achensee. Overnight accommodation in Maurach/Jenbach or Schwaz, depending on availability.

Overnight accommodation: Schwaz/Jenbach or Maurach

From Jenbach or Schwaz you cycle on the well-developed cycle path along the river Inn to Innsbruck, the provincial capital of Tyrol. Stroll through the historic old town, visit the well-known "Golden Roof", or take a trip to the Isel Mountain with its ski jump or the Tyrol Panorama, based on the battles under the supreme command of the freedom fighter Andreas Hofer.

Overnight stay in Innsbruck

The challenging section of today's route from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass, the border between Austria and Italy and also a watershed and cultural axis, is covered by a transfer by train or bus. Only a few buildings remain as reminders of the former border. From the Brenner Pass, you cycle along the old railway line to the Fugger town of Sterzing and on to Franzensfeste and Mühlbach or Brixen.

Overnight accommodation: Mühlbach or Brixen

From Mühlbach or Brixen, a well-developed cycle path leads through the Puster Valley, past the Mühlbacher Klause, a former border post. This once formed an ancient gateway between the provinces of Raetia and Noricum. Along the Rienz River, you reach Bruneck. We recommend a visit to the Folklore Museum in Dietenheim, an open-air museum that documents rural life in South Tyrol, culture, and customs, the Messner Mountain Museums at Kronplatz, or Bruneck Castle. From Bruneck, you cycle along the cycle path along the Rienz River to Niederdorf/Toblach, your destination for today. After you've already spent a few kilometers in the saddle, we offer you a bike pit stop in Toblach to check your rental bikes.

Accommodation location: Niederdorf/Toblach

From Niederdorf/Toblach you cycle on the cycle path along the former Dolomite railway through the Höhlensteintal past the Toblacher See and the war cemetery: It commemorates the First World War, whose front you cross here. Shortly thereafter, a unique panoramic view of the rock formation of the Three Peaks opens before you reach Lake Dürren. The cycle path leads slightly uphill to the border of the two provinces of Bozen and Belluno. Now you roll comfortably downhill on the former railway line, the valley opens up to the south, and you reach the Dolomite town of Cortina d'Ampezzo with its fantastic mountain scenery.

Accommodation location: Cortina d'Ampezzo

The cycle path runs steadily downhill, mostly still on the former railway line, with views of the Sorapis mountain range to the left and the Cinque Torri rock formation to the right. You continue south through the Boite Valley to the Pieve di Cadore junction. From here, the new cycle path takes you to Ponte nelle Alpi or Belluno.

Overnight accommodation: Ponte nelle Alpi or Belluno

You cycle further south into the Prosecco area past Lago di Santa Croce, which is very popular with water sports enthusiasts, to Conegliano.

Overnight stay: Conegliano

You leave the Alps behind and roll relaxed through the plain to Treviso, the city of watercourses and fashion. Again and again you can admire the villas of the Italian master builder Palladio, who completed his magnificent buildings here, in the immediate sphere of influence of the sea power Venice.

Overnight stay: Treviso

On the home straight towards the Adriatic Sea, the river Sile will be your faithful companion and flanks the cycle path to Venice mainland/Mestre, from where you can set off on an extensive tour of discovery of the "Serenissima" with all its magnificent buildings.

Overnight stay: Venice mainland/Mestre

Individual departure from Venice mainland/Mestre or possibility of extension.
