Champagne is a privileged destination for a cycling tour, even if it has to be earned! We begin on foot, discovering the exceptional heritage of Reims, including the magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Palais de Thau, and the Basilica of Saint-Rémi. From the second day onward, we venture onto our bikes along a route that winds its way through the often steep hills of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. You'll have breathtaking views of the vineyards dotted with charming little villages, the Marne Valley, and the Champagne plain below. You can stop at any time to meet Champagne winemakers, taste their wines, and appreciate the diversity of Champagne. In Épernay, we'll admire the facades of the grand houses belonging to the Champagne estates. We conclude this wonderful journey by cycling through the forest back to Reims.

Reims is regularly mentioned in history books, as it was the coronation site of the French kingdom for centuries. Admire the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral and learn about the coronation rituals at the Palais de Thau Museum. You can continue your historical journey by visiting the Abbey of Saint-Rémi. Alternatively, stroll through Reims' pedestrian center to see the covered market and enjoy the lively cafés.

Accommodation location: Reims

You cycle out of Reims along the Canal de l'Aisne à la Marne to Sillery on a green cycle path that winds through the industrial area. A perfect warm-up for your first day of riding! After a short stretch across the plain, you ride up into the vine-covered hills and look out over the villages of Verzenay and Verzy, nestled in the heights. You cycle from village to village on small roads and country lanes through Villers-Marmery, Trépail, and Ambonnay. You spend the night in Bouzy (comfort category/33km) or Mutigny (high-end category/52km).

Today begins with a long descent through the vineyards into the Marne Valley. You'll reach a pleasant, flat cycle path along the side canal leading to the Marne. Leave the cycle path and take the detour to the village of Ay, where many Champagne houses and the Pressoria Museum welcome visitors. After Dizy, you'll begin climbing the slopes again, enjoying breathtaking views of the undulating sea of vines and the valley below. You'll pass through the village of Champillon, and after another climb, you'll reach Hautvillers, considered the birthplace of Champagne. You'll then descend back into the valley and end the day in the prestigious town of Épernay.

This circular tour takes you through the Côte des Blancs wine region south of Épernay, named for the white color of its dominant grape variety, Chardonnay. Leaving Épernay, you'll cycle 2,5 km along a farm track through fields to reach Chouilly. From there, you'll continue on small country roads over gentler hills, enjoying panoramic views of the valley below. Take a break in the circular village of Vertus halfway through the tour before returning to Épernay through the forest. The route then climbs steep, vine-covered hills, with the charming chapel of Chavot-Courcourt at its heart, before continuing back to Épernay.

Cycle along the Marne to Damery and then uphill again, surrounded by vineyards. You'll reach the wooded hill of the Montagne de Reims and descend the opposite slope through another wine region overlooking the Reims plain. Passing through Chamery, Ecueil, and Sacy, you'll cross Reims and triumphantly reach the foot of the cathedral.

You will leave Reims after breakfast. Take advantage of these last moments to enjoy a final tour of the city center, and don't forget to leave with a box of Reims' famous rose-shaped biscuits!
