Today we reach the mountain town of Ruhla with its historic tradition of watchmaking. You reach Ruhla-Ascherbrück via tranquil paths via the Hohe Sonne. A trip into the impressive Drachenschlucht is definitely recommended!

A prominent milestone today is the Große Inselsberg (916 m above sea level) with a fantastic view over the Thuringian Forest, with good visibility up to the Brocken in the Harz. Short climbs are rewarded with reaching one of the most beautiful mountain meadows in the Thuringian Forest, a small mountain lake awaits you to relax at the finish!

Today you hike from the Neue Ausspanne along the ridge path through the Thuringian Forest and reach the climatic health resort of Oberhof, which is known for the successes of its winter sports enthusiasts. Relax in the wellness pool and discover the interesting Exotarium and the blooming Rennsteig garden.

Overnight place: Oberhof

Today you pass the Schneekopf (978 m) via the Suhler Hütte and reach Frauenwald. On the way you can take a break at the historic Rennsteig train station and, just before Frauenwald, take a look into the history of the Bunker Museum.

180 m ascent - 220 m descent

Overnight place: woman forest

Today you reach the middle of the Rennsteig and can see the Rennsteig Museum in Neustadt am Rennsteig. You reach the idyllic village of Masserberg, near which the Werra spring is located.

190 m ascent - 210 m descent

Overnight place: mass mountain

Today we offer a Fromstecher to the nature park information center in Friedrichshöhe. You walk a bit along the fairytale path and come to Neuhaus, ... where the Rennsteig is called Rennweg! The town church and the Geißlerhaus are among the local attractions.

280 m ascent - 230 m descent

Overnight place: Neuhaus am Rennweg

On your hike to Steinbach am Wald, you will pass the former German-German border and follow in the footsteps of Luther to Steinbach am Wald.

Ascent 180 m - 400 mFrom climb

Overnight place: Steinbach am Wald

On your way you come to the most beautiful and oldest coat of arms stones along the Rennsteig, reach Brennersgrün and enjoy fantastic views of the Wetzstein and the Franconian Forest Nature Park.

200 m ascent - 110 m descent 

Overnight place: Grumbach

Through this part of the Thuringian Slate Mountains you come to Schlegel, where you can see a 400-year-old apple tree trunk. You reach the end of your hike, the town of Blankenstein with the Rennsteig fountain and the hub of hiking!

60 m ascent - 280 m descent
