Look forward to a varied cycling tour along historical sites, beautiful fortified towns, and a typical Dutch river landscape. You'll cycle through the expansive Rhine Delta along the Neder Rijn, the Lek, and the Merwede to Rotterdam. Some highlights of this beautiful cycling tour include the Hartenstein Airborne Museum, Doorwerth Castle, Loevestijn Castle, Biesbosch National Park, and the windmills of Kinderdijk (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Experience the contrast between small, picturesque villages with their many historical and cultural treasures and the vibrant port city of Rotterdam. The easy and well-signposted route, which often follows charming, quiet dike paths, offers pure Dutch cycling pleasure.

Die Rheinschleife bei Boppard am Rhein

With excellent rail and motorway connections, you can reach Arnhem quickly and easily. Enjoy a stroll through the beautiful Sonsbeek city park, which consists largely of a centuries-old beech forest, or visit the famous Burgers' Zoo. Shopping enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in the popular shopping district, while history buffs can explore Arnhem's rich history and visit its impressive memorials and monuments.

Overnight place: Arnhem

Look forward to a varied tour through the oldest national park in the Netherlands: Veluwezoom. Veluwezoom is characterized by its hilly landscape with extensive forests and heathland. Along the way, you'll encounter impressive historic country houses and old farmsteads, as well as the fertile floodplains stretching south of the Rhine. The endpoint of this day's tour is Wijk bij Duurstede. In the early Middle Ages, the important trading town of Dorestad was located here. End your day in the charming town center, explore the many historical and cultural attractions, or visit the small harbor.

Near Wijk bij Duurstede, you'll cross the Lower Rhine and head towards the famous Betuwe fruit-growing region, whose soils are among the most fertile in Europe. Look forward to the historic town of Buren, a protected historical site. Buren is known for its well-preserved old fortifications, which include a beautiful windmill. From there, you'll cycle along the Linge River to Leerdam, a town brimming with medieval charm. The defensive walls with their ramparts and three large residential towers are among the town's landmarks. Your destination for the day is Gorinchem, situated on the banks of the Linge, Merwede, and Waal rivers. Take a worthwhile stroll through this old fortified town.

In the morning, take the ferry to the fortified town of Woudrichem. Stroll through the town with its Gothic church and Loevestein Castle. This fortified moated castle was built in the early 14th century as a border and customs station at the strategically important confluence of the Waal and Maas rivers. After a visit to the castle, which is highly recommended, cycle through the beautiful Biesbosch National Park, where the Waal and Maas meet, and continue to Dordrecht, the oldest city in the Netherlands. Stroll through this charming town, enjoy a fantastic view from the unfinished tower of the Grote Kerk (Great Church), admire the old merchants' houses and the windmill, and take a relaxing coffee break at Scheffersplein. From here, it's not far to Papendrecht or Dordrecht.

Today, you'll cycle along numerous canals in true Dutch style to Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The most famous windmills date back to the 18th century and are among the most beautiful destinations in the Netherlands. No matter the season, they are always fascinating and can be explored by bicycle. Afterwards, you'll cycle on to Rotterdam. Rotterdam is a city of many faces: a cool port city, an attractive nightlife destination, a chic shopping city, and a trendy arts hub. But Rotterdam is also, and perhaps most importantly, the architectural capital of the Netherlands, where modernization is paramount and the skyline is constantly evolving. Among Rotterdam's skyscrapers, you'll find everything you could wish for: leisurely shopping, delicious meals, and visits to museums and other attractions.

After breakfast, your wonderful cycling tour in Rotterdam comes to an end at the hotel. We would be happy to book an extension in Rotterdam for you, allowing you to explore the city and the region further.
