Cycle relaxed Mainbanks and along vineyards. The route starts at the southern one Mainbank and leads to the medieval old town in Höchst, which is well worth seeing. A short detour to the state capital Mainz takes you through 2000 years of history. Old Roman ruins and one of the most important cathedrals on the Rhine still stand here. On the banks of the Rhine you will discover the magnificent Biebrich Castle, a masterpiece that dates back to the Baroque era and impresses with its huge castle park. Let yourself be tempted by a taste of Rhine Riesling at idyllic wine villages along the picturesque waterfront in Eltville!

Today the cycle path leads along the banks of the Rhine. A little detour takes you to the popular world cultural heritage site of Rüdesheim. You can take the gondola to the Niederwald Monument and enjoy a unique view over the vineyards of the Rhine landscape. The Rhine cycle path in Bingen has incredible photo opportunities for you! In Bad Kreuznach, the place of health, you can enjoy the largest open-air inhalatorium in Europe while strolling along the huge graduation towers. The popular photo motif of the medieval bridge, which is still built with houses today, awaits you in the river valley.

Before you lies a particularly attractive cycle route through Rheinhessen with many little-known wine towns and a landscape that has hardly been touched by tourism. For the first few kilometers of the day you follow the Appel river on the Appelbach cycle path. From Wöllstein you cycle along the Hiwwel cycle path over 1000 hills. Maybe there aren't really 1000 hills, but it feels like there could be that many. The people of Rheinhesse affectionately call them “Hiwwel”. In Alzey you can enjoy the atmosphere at the Rossmarkt, the “hub” of Alzey, with a glass of wine in the afternoon. The lavishly proportioned steed of the minstrel and knight Volker von Alzey standing at the fountain trough invites not only children to climb into the saddle and have their photo taken.
Overnight place: Alzey
5TH DAY: RHEINHESSEN & PALatinate | 48 kilometers by bike - medium stage
From Rheinhessen, the largest wine-growing region in Germany, you cycle on to the Palatinate, the second largest wine region. Here you follow the wonderful Palatinate Wine Route cycle route. Its numerous famous wine locations cannot make a wine connoisseur's heart beat faster. Deidesheim, the largest wine-growing town in the Palatinate, awaits you with delightful historical buildings. The prince-bishop's castle with its particularly beautiful castle park and its old aristocratic courts is one of them with a double staircase.
Overnight place: Deidesheim
The leisurely cycle route takes you further along the wine route to the romantic wine town of Rhodt unter Rietburg. Small houses with picturesque vine-covered courtyards belonging to wine growers characterize the face of the place. You can follow in the footsteps of King Ludwig I in the enchanting Villa Ludwigshöhe Castle. From here you have a unique view over the vineyards into the Rhine Valley.

In the morning you roll into the city of Speyer, which is famous for its important cathedral built in Romanesque style. It is the largest preserved Romanesque cathedral in the world and is a World Heritage Site! In the center of Schwetzingen you can see the glamorous castle park. It was created in the 18th century by an Elector Palatine. The fusion of geometric and landscape styles make it a masterpiece of European horticulture.
