The Harz is always worth a trip! Anyone thinking of hiking here is certainly not wrong. But this wonderful cultural landscape is just as beautiful to cycle through. Experience the different facets of northern Germany's highest mountain range and its surroundings - the famous Brocken, the mystical witch scenes, historic towns, Romanesque buildings, traces of the mining era and again and again wide views of the country.

Arrive on your own. The colorful city in Harz invites you to take a leisurely stroll through the streets lined with half-timbered houses. A highlight is the market square with the historic town hall. The short ascent to Wernigerode Castle is rewarded with a beautiful view of the city.
Overnight place: Wernigerode
The first stage is all about the spiritual past and present. First, you start with a small detour via the climatic health resort of Ilsenburg, which, with its medieval monastery complex and the Drübeck monastery gardens in front of it, can be considered the gateway to the Romanesque Road. Now heading east again, it goes pleasantly downhill through fields and meadows to Halberstadt. A visit to the cathedral and the Martini Church is definitely worthwhile.
Overnight place: Halberstadt
From cathedral city to cathedral city is the motto today. Follow the Bode brook to the nearby UNESCO World Heritage town of Quedlingburg. Enjoy the atmosphere of the cozy old town and the all-round view from the Schlossberg. The collegiate church located up here houses the famous Quedlinburg cathedral treasure and the graves of the first German king, Heinrich I and his wife.
Overnight place: Quedlinburg
The Bode River accompanies you for part of the way today. Near Thale in the Bode Valley, witches have left their mark. Discover the Witches' Dance Floor (Hexentanzplatz) with its witch's house during a breather on the cable car. At the Rappbode Dam, you have the opportunity to cross the world's longest suspension bridge (458,5 m), opened in 2017. A slight uphill cycle, past Michaelstein Monastery with its historic collection of musical instruments, leads to Blankenburg. At the end of the stage, you return to Wernigerode.
Overnight place: Wernigerode
With the Brockenbahn (journey incl. and without bike) you go up to 1.141 meters today. From the highest mountain in northern Germany, also known to witches as "Blocksberg", you can see the national park Harz. From the summit you can hike comfortably downhill to Schierke or 3 Annen-Hohne back to Wernigerode.
Overnight place: Like the day before in Wernigerode
Today the bike takes you to Goslar, the imperial city. The imposing buildings from a wide variety of eras have earned the old town the UNSECO World Heritage title. Also part of the world heritage are today's Rammelsberg visitor mine, which procured valuable ores for the rulers of bygone times, as well as the Oberharzhe water management from the 16th century with a pond and ditch system for generating energy through hydropower that is unique in the world. After these extensive and diverse experiences, the train takes you back to Wernigerode (on your own).
