The Dutch once separated the often wild Zuiderzee from the North Sea with a dam. This is how the IJsselmeer came into being. It's a peaceful body of water. And it's beautiful: a paradise for sailors, kitesurfers and windsurfers that still exudes the charm of the sea. The mostly flat region is heavenly, not least for cyclists. The eight-day round trip takes you through national parks with some rare animals and plants, through picturesque fishing villages and cities that have experienced glorious times as trading metropolises.

Day 1: Arrival in Harderwijk
Arrive on your own in the medieval Hanseatic city.
Day 2: Harderwijk - Bussum/Naarden/ surroundings, approx. 50 - 55 km
Look forward to the Arkemheen-Eemland National Park and the wide, flat landscape with its exceptional vegetation. Black-tailed godwits strut across the moor. You cycle along the banks of the Randmeren to Huizen, the twin village on the Eemmeer with traditional costumes and a fishing museum. Naarden is a beautiful town in the green Gooi region and one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe. The city was one of the most important defenses of the New Dutch Water Line, which still amazes today.
Day 3: Bussum/Naarden/surroundings – Amsterdam, about 30 km
During your tour along the IJsselmeer you will touch the medieval moated castle "Muidenschloss". Continue to Amsterdam, enjoy the historical buildings, wonderful museums and cozy atmosphere. Take a canal cruise, stroll through Vondelpark, visit the floating flower market and shop in the old city centre. Amsterdam is truly unique! Due to the short stage, you have enough time to explore the beautiful city.
Day 4: Amsterdam - Volendam, approx. 30 km
After a few kilometers you reach the typical old Dutch town of Monnickendam, a real water town. Enjoy a relaxing day of cycling along the IJsselmeer to Volendam or Katwoude. You will take your breaks in traditional fishing villages whose past as thriving trading cities cannot be overlooked. Volendam is famous for its traditional costumes and is said to be home to a particularly delicious smoked eel.
Day 5: Volendam - Enkhuizen, approx. 46 km
In Edam, you'll quickly discover that there's more to it than world-renowned cheese. Hoorn is a small shopping paradise with numerous terrace cafés and restaurants to enjoy and relax. The picturesque town of Enkhuizen attracts thousands of tourists every year. Some love it for its numerous historic buildings and monuments, others for its harbor and excellent water sports opportunities. Take a city walk to visit the Zuiderzeemuseum with its replica of the old Zuiderzee town.
Day 6: Enkhuizen - Lemmer, approx. 40 km
Cross the waves of the IJsselmeer on a ferry (not incl.) and disembark in Stavoren. Discover the nostalgic charm of the oldest of the eleven Frisian cities in the Netherlands. The cozy center of Lemmer with its many terraces directly on the water, the cafés and the many sights, such as the old lock, bubbles with joie de vivre.
Day 7: Lemmer - Kampen, approx. 65 km
You drive through National Park De Weerribben. The De Wieden natural landscape borders on the Weerribben, together they form the largest contiguous fen in Western Europe. Zwartsluis (Black Lock) took over the role of transit port for peat in the 18th century. Kampen has a centuries-old tradition in the fields of trade and shipping, and this is still evident today. You will find over 500 monuments in this Hanseatic city.
Day 8: Kampen – Harderwijk and return journey, approx. 45 km
On your journey along the Veluwemeer you return to your starting point, Harderwijk. The individual return journey takes place or the beginning of your extension. No more overnight stays in Harderwijk.
