"Man hot'n Maage, un nit umesunscht" is the motto here, where the fruit almost grows in your mouth and figs or chestnuts thrive just as well as elegant wine. Even Romans and kings appreciated this stretch of land between the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine plain.

Day 1: Arrival in Heidelberg

Individual arrival. Visit the university library and take a look at the precious Manesse manuscript. In the evening we recommend a stroll through the "Untere Straße".

Overnight stay in Heidelberg

Day 2: Heidelberg - Bensheim/Zwingenberg, about 42-48 km

Start your cycling holiday with a ride along the Neckars to Ladenburg. In the Lobdengau Museum you can visit an open-air museum, among other things. Passing pretty towns and castles you reach the market place of Heppenheim. Via Bensheim you reach Zwingenberg, the oldest town on the Bergstrasse.

Overnight stay in Bensheim or Zwingenberg

Day 3: Bensheim/Zwingenberg - Worms, about 36-42 km

The first highlight of the day is the Carolingian Gate or King's Hall in Lorsch. UNESCO put the pre-Romanesque building on the World Heritage List. At Worms you cross the Rhine. Here you can visit the Imperial Cathedral and the historic churches.

Overnight stay in Worms

Day 4: Worms - Deidesheim region, about 38-55 km

You leave the cathedral, Luther and Nibelungen city of Worms and reach the famous wine route. In addition to wine, the mild climate means that exotic fruits such as lemons and figs thrive here. The sun shines here about 1500 hours a year. Today's destination is Bad Dürkheim with the Dürkheimer Riesenfass, alternatively Deidesheim or Neustadt.

Overnight stay in Bad Dürkheim, Deidesheim or Neustadt

Day 5: Deidesheim region - Speyer, about 25-39 km

Along the Wine Route you will reach Wachenheim, where you can make a detour to the Wachtenburg on foot. Afterwards, the wine town of Deidesheim awaits you with lots of half-timbered houses and cosiness. Stroll through the old town streets in Neustadt or let yourself be spoiled by the hearty Palatinate cuisine in the restaurants. A signposted cycle path leads from Neustadt to Speyer through shady forest areas. Speyer's landmark is the Salian Imperial Cathedral from 1030, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Overnight stay in Speyer

Day 6: Speyer - Heidelberg, about 28 km

Your last stage takes you along the Kurpfalz route to the asparagus town of Schwetzingen. The park of the famous hunting and pleasure palace is one of the most beautiful gardens of the Baroque and Rococo periods. Enjoy a ride on the mountain railway in Heidelberg and visit the world-famous castle (incl.).

Overnight stay in Heidelberg
