On your own. Your journey begins in Eichstätt, nestled in the Altmühltal Nature Park. Here you can explore the magnificent old town with its impressive cathedral, the residence and the majestic Willibaldsburg. Let yourself be enchanted by the historical atmosphere and enjoy the many cultural highlights of this charming city.
Overnight stay in Eichstätt
The car-free Altmühl cycle path leads through the juniper heath past Walting, Kipfenberg (geographical center of Bavaria) and Kinding (fortified church) to Beilngries (baroque town hall, Hirschberg Castle).

Passing Dietfurt, we continue to Riedenburg, home to the Crystal Museum (the world's largest group of rock crystals). Along the... Main-Danube Canal with its modern lock systems up to the mouth of the Altmühl into the Danube near Kelheim.
Overnight stay in Kelheim
Via Bad Abbach, you can reach the UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg (Stone Bridge, Cathedral, Thurn and Taxis Palace) via the Danube Cycle Path. Guided tour of the historic Imperial Diet in the Old Town Hall, including the torture chamber. Tip: Continue by bike to the Walhalla memorial, return by boat (+16 km cycling and 120 minutes boat trip, on your own).
Overnight stay in Regensburg
Along the cycle path to the Danube Gorge. By boat to Weltenburg Abbey (approx. €18 including bike, payable on site) with the oldest brewery in the world and an atmospheric beer garden.
Overnight stay: Bad Gögging
The car-free Danube cycle path leads partly through hop fields and past beautiful bathing lakes, via Vohburg and Ingolstadt (Anatomy, New Castle, Old Town) to Neuburg/Donau.
Overnight stay: Neuburg / Danube
The highlight and finale: A short stretch along the Danube, then through the Wellheim dry valley to the medieval Dollnstein and on to Eichstätt, where you will spend the night.
