Along the Spree you leave Spremberg, the pearl of Lower Lusatia. The journey takes you past the Bernsteinsee and Scheibesee to Lohsa on the Dreiweiberner See, where two beaches invite you to take a dip in the refreshing water. In Mortka you will find the Jakubzburg, an original medieval castle in Lusatia, which was built in the 2st century. Equally impressive is the former Knappenrode briquette factory, which now houses a museum on the history of the region. Finally, Hoyerswerda, the third largest city in Upper Lusatia, welcomes you with a small, beautiful old town, castle and zoo.
Overnight place: Hoyerswerda
The first destination today is the "Black Mill" in Schwarzkollm. The Sorbian legend of the famous miller's boy Krabat comes to life on the adventure farm. Then it's on to Laubsch, which was built as the "Erika Colony" over 100 years ago as a workers' settlement for the coal mining industry. The last 20 km are along the Geierswalder Lake and the Senftenberger Lake to Senftenberg. Along the way there are beautiful white sandy beaches, places to stop for refreshments with a view of the lake and from several ports you can set off on a boat tour with the "Santa Barbara".
Overnight place: Senftenberg
Today, enjoy a relaxing day of swimming at Senftenberg Lake with a total of 7km of beaches. A visit to the zoo or the fortress with castle provides cultural variety. Alternatively, you can also take a tour of the F60 visitor mine. The impressive overburden conveyor bridge is 502 metres long, 204 metres wide and 80 metres high. On a guided tour, climb the largest moving work machine in the world, which has also been nicknamed the "lying Eiffel Tower".
Overnight place: Senftenberg
From Senftenberg, the route leads to Großräschener See, where a detour to the IBA Terraces and the Forgery Museum is worthwhile. Also worth a visit is the landmark "Rusty Nail" on Sedlitzer See, a 30-meter-high observation tower made of 111 tons of Corten steel. This is followed by Partwitzer See, with its Caribbean-turquoise hue, and the Blunoer Südsee (South Lake). Alternatively, you can also take a look at the active Welzow Süd open-cast lignite mine, whose dimensions are impressive and reminiscent of a lunar landscape. From Spreetaler See, the route finally passes the "Schwarze Pumpe" power plant and returns to Spremberg.
