Look forward to the beautiful Saar with the excellently signposted cycle path. You cycle on flat paths in leisurely daily stages from Saarbrücken to the mouth of the Saar in the Moselle. You start your cycle tour in Saarbrücken, where you can feel the French flair. The changing nationality of the region has also left its mark on the kitchen. For the Saarlanders, it goes without saying that they eat snails, prawns or pâté, and kir or pastis are very welcome as an aperitif. Try it, you will be amazed. Love goes through the stomach, but you will also love the Saarland and the Saar through other highlights of this cycle tour: Visit the Völklingen Ironworks World Heritage Site, marvel at the old fortifications of Saarlouis, enjoy the fantastic view of the Saar loop, follow the Executions in the Villeroy & Boch adventure center in Mettlach and discover the waterfall in Saarburg's old town, which falls 20 meters over rock cascades in the middle of the city as a unique natural spectacle.

Day 1: Saarbrücken Arrival
Arrive early to Saarbrücken, it's worth it. Visit the heart of the city: the well-known St. Johann market with its pubs, bistros and restaurants. Our partner hotel in a central location offers good parking facilities, and your rental bikes are already waiting for you here.
Day 2: Saarlouis 28 km
Look forward to the first day of cycling and follow the flat Saar cycle path through the former coal mining area to Völklingen. You definitely have to make a stopover here, because the Völklingen Ironworks World Heritage Site is one of the 33 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Germany! In terms of its importance, it is on an equal footing with the Egyptian pyramids, the Great Wall of China, the Cologne Cathedral and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. A visit to the Völklingen Ironworks is like an adventure: it goes deep into the dark corridors of the Möllerhalle and high up the ascent to the viewing platform at the blast furnace. Then follow the cycle path to Saarlouis with its old town, which is well worth seeing. The city's former fortress still determines the hexagonal layout of the city center today. Discover the old buildings by Vauban and the 19th century fortifications. The old ramparts and ditches of the city are now harmoniously integrated into the cityscape and are used by the catering trade under the name “casemate”, while the water-filled ditches have been integrated into the city’s green spaces.
Day 3: Mettlach 37 km
Today, the Saar cycle path first leads you through the beautiful Merzig region with its typical apple trees before you reach the impressive Saar loop. Swap the bike for hiking shoes and walk up to the Cloef viewpoint. Only 30 minutes and the view of the Saar loop is simply breathtaking! Hardly back in the saddle, you reach Mettlach, where the Villeroy & Boch visitor center beckons. Thousands of years of cultural history, centuries of ceramics tradition and forward-looking concepts related to the topic of "living and living" - you will encounter all of this in the incomparable atmosphere in the Villeroy & Boch adventure center, which is well worth seeing.
Day 4: Trier 42 km
In the morning you will cycle through a densely wooded area to Saarburg, where the castle towers majestically over the winding streets. Discover the sights of the state-approved resort and marvel at the main attraction: a waterfall in the middle of the city, which falls 20 meters over rock cascades and drives the mill wheels in the valley basin. A sightseeing and café break in the beautiful city center strengthens you for the rest of the cycle path. Guided by the traces of the Romans, you cycle via Konz to Trier. Look forward to an individual tour of the historic city center, the Imperial Baths and the Porta Nigra.
Day 5: Trier Departure
Today your beautiful cycle tour ends in the heart of Trier. If you want to return to Saarbrücken, you can book our practical return transfer in a minibus with luggage and bike transport every Sunday. Departure is at 11:30 a.m., arrival in Saarbrücken around 13:30 p.m
